No need for armor, all you have to do is read the topic title...slowly if necessary😊

Oh, and perhaps pilots and First Officers who look like they play for the other side in the zombie apocalypse.

You're kidding, right

Hmmm, you want flak ? Here is some 😇.

There is no reason why flight simulation shouldn’t be held to the same standards than other games. The « incredible complexity ... combinated with the almost infinite amount of users systems » is, pardon me, a worn out argument. It was born when FS was indeed more complex than any other games. It has not been the case anymore for a long time.

Stutters are a case in point. We see them in a variety of setups, even at reasonable slider settings. Frankly, speaking, I find it tiresome that some developers (not all) incriminate the user before questioning their own competence or, by corporatism, the competence of their fellow programmers.

The ESP is a good platform that I suspect has now reached its limits and cannot be but marginally improved. All its inherent flaws will stay just a little more hidden by the powerful machines we have. Thats maybe a better explanation than the simmer incompetence. And I expect not to see them in FS20.

Early on, when FS20 was announced I was in the camp of those wishing for an evolution rather than a revolution . Not anymore. We have seen on 4.6 and then 5 on i9+2080 computers the same perennial issues. P3D is a great sim and saying the contrary doesn't make any sense to me but it looks more and more like a dead end.

I started this thread after an extensive read at the v5 forum to make up my mind about buying it or not.  Avsim is still the best source of infos for that. Good people posting. I picked up  three recommendations that I find outlandish not to say totally ridiculous.  I am amazed that one can still seriously recommend for the 5th version of P3D to modify things like HT or monitor frequency or search for a miracle affinity mask. Something is wrong in the kingdom of Denmark.

Yes, I also saw that recommendation that you really need a 30 Hz monitor to get P3D v5 smooth (made in absolutely good faith, and also accepted by the OP in good faith!) and was blown away. I mean fair enough trying to work around limitations, and the ingenuity and perseverance the end-user community has shown here is genuinely impressive. I’m not criticizing them. They’re trying to help others.

But obviously something is not right if the recommendation made with a straight face in the year of our lord 2020 is that the only way to get your “state-of-the-art” sim smooth (at a mere 30 FPS!) on monster hardware is buying a low-refresh rate monitor...

Thanks for your additional comment, James.   The recommendations are ridiculous but not those who make them. They show indeed a good deal of ingenuity and perseverance as you put it.

Allright - whatever...

No offense - I'm terribly sorry, but the way I see it is, that this thread is yet another classic example of users ridiculous, unobtainable and (and to be quite frankly) unfair expectations within software development. I really don't envy the developers... it's a battle they just can't win. The expectations are (apparently) that everything should be running butter-smooth, with stutters, blurries, bugs, CTD's, crashes. Every piece (no matter how unknown) should work out-of-box and everything should be supported, without tweaking, additional setup etc...

*SIGH* - I'll leave this place alone, since there's obviously no winning...

Poor developers - you have a rough time ahead of you, with this crowd.

I will not leave you escape like that, my friend 😋 !

I always have had and still have a great respect for the Prepar3D team and the addon cottage industry. I love these guys as they brought me over the years so many great things for a very fair  price. I have, many times since June, called out the despicable schadenfreude of some on this very forum, happy to see FS20  making them irrelevant.  But it does not mean that we shouldn't have robust discussions about the product  flaws. And using us, the users, as a stupid scapegoat is not the way.

EDIT I see now that you hail from the fair  city of Copenhagen. My Hamlet approximate quote was a coincidence, in no way related !

Fake renaming of MSFS.. FS20 & FS2020 are names of a farm Sim & an Aerofly sim..

The developers could either set a high standard for themselves or users/customers (this crowd) can. Either way the important thing is that a high standard is sought.

A high standard will never be attained if we don't require/desire it.

Also, to have it "rough" and deliver excellence, would mean greater rewards. The easy way (a low standard = "cutting corners" + full of excuses) ends in loss.
