June 13, 20205 yr My favorite bar no longer exists. It used to be located at the former Toronto International Airport Terminal 1 or Aeroquay One as it used to be known. It was located above the departures level and had large beautiful windows overlooking the entire airfield. You can see it's former location in this picture on top of the circular portion of the building with the large windows: The old terminal was something special architecturally, but on the departure level was the beautiful stainless steel lifts that took you up to the bar and the bar was out of this world with its original fittings from 1964. You could spend hours in there watching the planes come and go. Unfortunately torn down in 2004 and replaced by a modern terminal but it will never be the same. June 13, 20205 yr Administrators Yo, Noel! Scoma's is still there and is in a fight now with a fishing-boat captain, who they lease a slip to and is selling fresh-caught fish from his boat. This causes the Scoma"s parking lot to jam up when he's selling! Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. June 13, 20205 yr The Beer Garden at the "Airport Hotel" at Manchester Airport EGCC . It is absolutely on the very end of the runway , however it is offset several feet from the runway centerline , the best place to have the froth blown off the top of your beer by the airliner jet engines . I have a payware version of the Manchester airport scenery an it includes the Airport Hotel complete with the Beer Garden . Cheers Karol Edited June 13, 20205 yr by COBS
June 13, 20205 yr I was there two summers ago Charlie. My daughter took me to San Francisco because she wanted me to show her where I grew up. We stayed at Fisherman's Wharf and rode the cable car up to my old neighborhood and walked back to Fisherman's Wharf and had dinner at Scoma's. When I was a kid I used to fish with a handline off both Muni Pier and the piers at Fisherman's Wharf. Caught perch and sometimes smelt. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

June 14, 20205 yr There is also a Scoma's on the water in Sausalito. We would take the ferry and do the one in Sausalito for lunch, and then go to the one on the warf in SFO for dinner.

If I ever get back "home" (I live in Florida) I'll try it for sure. June 14, 20205 yr I lived in Coral Springs 5yrs and Longwood for 9yrs. On the way to the Keys stop at Alabama Jacks on Card Sound Road. Great watering hole. June 14, 20205 yr I wasn't aware of a Scoma's in Sausalito either. I had a small two room apartment in Sausalito after I got out of the Marines and left my parent's house. Had a nice view of Richardson Bay. The rent at that time (1956) was 95 dollars a month. I was making 390.00 a month at the time. I had bought a new Plymouth and my car payments were about 60.00 a month. Spending 15 dollars on a Saturday night date was considered extravagant. Tempus Fugit. Noel The tires are worn. June 14, 20205 yr Sunset Beach right next to Princess Juliana airport watching a 7474 land right above me. The food was average, the drinks were cold, and the setting was perfect.
June 14, 20205 yr You mean the Sunset Bar at Maho Beach. Been there many times. Great place. YouTube has a zillion vids.
June 14, 20205 yr Author You'e right. I've hoisted a few there too. I don't know why I left it off my list (too much wine? Or maybe it was the Jack Daniels). Somewhere I have a film clip I took of people on the beach getting blown into the water during the takeoff run of a heavy. One of the macho things in life is trying to hold onto the cyclone fence at the end of the runway during takeoff.......Doug PS: Sadly, KLM no longer flies the 747's there. About the best you can do now is a 767...but that ain't bad.
