STANDARD / DELUXE / PREMIUM -- thoughts?

  1. If I take my wife out for a nice dinner I'll pay more than the price for the standard version. The dinner will be over in 3 hours at the most and with the sim I'll have 3 nice hours every evening I want to fly. The premium version is still like 1/4 or 1/5 of the price we'll spend for a nice weekend trip with a hotel etc. So still a bargain to buy once.

Ouch, is dining so expensive over there? Here in Argentina the standard version will cost ARS 4000 ($53) and the premium version will double that. A dinner with my GF in a top tier restaurant here in my city will cost hardly ARS 2500, just for reference.

However, I find going for the subscription may be cheap enough for me for trying in my laptop. If it works good enough, I may consider purchasing it, if I'm sure of this:

Time enjoying the sim > Time I had to work to earn the money paid for it

With this mindset, I can say that the PMDG 777 I purchased during the promo in April is already paid for 😊

Is is there a time limit to purchase or subscribe (apart from the obvious one in Aug.18?

I have compiled a comprehensive list of all the 3rd party addons you would need to buy to get the same content as MFS.

My goal in this hobby has never been to save money but to enjoy the simulation and I am thankful for all these great addons.

I look forward to FS20 not because I will save a bunch but  because I think my flying experience will be prettier, smoothier, more convincing and that I will be able to fly in places for which 3PD have shown no interest so far  under the dubious belief that there were no market for them  Asia and Africa among others.

You should fly in Asia and Africa anyway.  You might be surprised.

I do a lot in Asia. With Global and Vector it is palatable : PNG, Indonesia, Sulawesi, Philippines and Indochina. Central Asia,, the Middle East and India are miserable. Cant' wait to fly the Silk Road in FS20.

Africa, never found a place I liked and its too late to buy the OLC.

I flew Cape Town to Cairo in P3D on the following route...

FACT FAGM FAKN HKJK HAAB HSSS HSSW HECA

... in stock scenery and it was pretty good.  About halfway I stopped tuning the VORs and started flying pilotage because I'd rather use the scenery for navigation.

In general, FSX/P3D just doesn't do desert scenery.  India was the same land class tile repeated to the horizon.  But when you're doing around the world flights you'll see areas that don't look as good as others. 🙂 New Zealand was disappointing.

In P3D, Las Vegas to Los Angeles flying down highway 15 is painful.  It highlights the worst of the scenery problems in that sim.  I've flown it twice in MSFS and the difference is incredible.

I have been doing a 'world tour' in my tbm + FSE and xplane. Inspired by Matiab .  It was OK until i got to china . Ortho i try to get there is very patchy. and default scenery.. is well... default (patterny(?) not unique to the area)  .. Im still enjoying it on a level since I still get to dive into the procedures of the airports.. and I also stopped at Kai tak. (Downloaded a free airport scenery)

.. but ive slowed to only a flight a week on the 'tour' (I still fly other flights in other planes in between) .. I'm going to start the tour again in FS2020.. Im hoping there will be a way to install FSE. Cant wait!

I am too used to fly with Orbx products that I can’t fly default anymore. But even with Global and Vector and a good mesh,  I tried the first transAfrica that I mapped in another thread few months ago but gave up.

Derna (Lybia) - Sollum  - Cairo (Egypt) -  Abu Simbel  (approximation of the the city of Kurusku north of Wadi Halfa where they crashed) - Khartoum (Sudan) - Nimule (South Sudan) - Kisumu (Kenya) - Mbala (aka Abercorn - Zambia) - Ndola -  Kabwe (aka Broken Hill) - Livingstone  (Victoria Falls !) - Balawayo (Zimbabwe) -  Cape Town.

I look forward to FS20 to start again. Same for the Silk road  from China to Venice. My flight plan is ready 😃

Try it with megascenery earth and nuvecta for autogen.  i've done the two you mention as well as the third I mention.  It's amazing.

I do  the Twenty Nine Palms or Agua Dulce/Las Vegas flight from time to time with Orbx SoCal (LC not TE), it is a good scenery also.

How are you all purchasing the Deluxe or Premium version?

I only have the regular $59.99 option available in my Microsoft Windows store?

Thanks!

There is a dropdown menu here that lets you select the edition:

After examining the map and checking the list of aircraft again, I'll be getting the Premium edition

Guess this is rather off topic but I'll break it down for you. Not even talking about a top tier restaurant but a rather home-style cuisine pub/restaurant:

  • Entrée (like soup or bruscetta, collection of antipasti) ~5€ (x2 for 2 people)
  • Main dish (like beef steak or grilled salmon) ~20€ (x2)
  • dessert (cake/ice) ~5€ (x2)

Now we're at 60€, had nothing to drink yet.

Add a bottle of water (0,75l) 5€, 2 glasses of the cheapest wine they have (3,5€x2) and 2 espressos for the dessert (2€x2)

Now we're even at 76€ (= $86 US). My conclusion is that I underestimated the costs of a not too fancy dinner in Germany by ~10%.

To put things in perspective: I'm certainly not to be considered "rich" but lucky enough to be able to afford a nice restaurant dinner when I'm in the mood. And the final conclusion is: That compared to my regular costs of living the price of this supposedly awesome flight sim is a bargain

Pr-ordered premium, About 186$ CAD.. Whether its got some growing pains or not in the beginning, I would still be to tempted to purchasing it as I feel this is the path going forward for me with my simulation hobby. And with the many years to come of enjoyment I'm sure to have, I think it is well worth the cost.

 Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
