Who pre-orders? Seems pointless.

I'm hoping that between now and August 18 it will magically pre-load like Red Dead Redemption and the last version of Windows. and I won't have to download on release day at 10 kbps.

You may be right.  You may be wrong.  Due to the NDA I'm not going to respond.  But what makes you an expert to back up your statement in bold?

To the question at hand, I will also not be ordering.  I'll be waiting for some more airliners from the big names, chaseplane, FSUIPC (or confirmation I can control my various hardware and create custom per aircraft mappings).  My crystal ball is that eventually MSFS will be the dominant sim and one that I will move to.  However I think initially it will be somewhat disappointing to folks.  But I do believe it will get to where we want it.  I'm curious if the airports I'm interested in are up to the payware standards we would expect.  I'll wait for NDA to expire and initial reports to surface before choosing my version.  Last thing I want to do is buy a deluxe version for a few airports and the 787 only to decide I will rebuy those anyway.  In the meantime I still thoroughly enjoy my simulator that I fly often now.  So it's a true win/win.

I'm currently a couple of weeks into a 3 month free subscription, thanks to buying my new PC with a qualifying Ryzen CPU, so it looks like I'll get to try out the basic version for (up to*) 10 weeks before deciding if I want to buy one of the upgraded versions!🤩

Well, so much for that idea! Unfortunately, it requires Administrator permission to download, and there's a year-long (at least) problem with the Xbox beta app which causes all such games to fail to install. I've tried many workarounds posted online, all with no success.😡

Xbox (beta) Administrator approval required for installation.

If anyone has had that problem and succeeded in overcoming it, please let me know.

That´s a lot of effort you put into this, thanks.

I agree for most part of it, especially considering how much money I spent into Orbx landclass and texture stuff to make P3D look nice, or weather, flight planning and ATC tools just to have the very basics/essentials in my sims (and yes, this goes both to P3D and XP11).

In general I think that in regards to above and especially the scenary this will be a major step up.

However, without having seen the specially designed airports I would rather wait to see what value for money they offer. I would expect them to be impressive, of course, but nevertheless I am pretty sure that there still will be a market for airports and planes offered by TPD. For example, let´s see if Asobo LOWI can keep up with the impressive ORBX version before throwing it into the digital trash bin. I am in no way saying that I would doubt it, but before judging it or pay double price on something I would not necessarily need (or maybe could also buy separately via the market place, who knows?) - I think it is best to wait for now and judge later.

I also think there will still be market for subscriptions of navdata, be it for the MS solution of NavBlue or (I am sure it will be coming) Navigraph (Charts).

And who knows if Active Sky team can´t find a way to tweak the MFS weather engine even a bit further...

But all in all, you are absolutely right. MFS seems to offer a more than solid base with all the stuff which should be mandatory for a flight sim already included. Actually that is more or less all I am wishing for and I think it is also important for new simmers or even more casual gamers to have one package with everything included from the start.

And TPD will have to think about how to create something deeper and more immersive /realistic to convince us in buying stuff with added value which should also be an advantage for the simmers.

Agreed in regards to airports and planes. Cashing out twice the amount without really knowing what to get...hmm... I might do it anyway, to be honest, but I also think it would be smarter to wait and see if the default airports would be ok for now and then wait for the TPD to showcase their offerings at least on those airports you will be visiting more frequently (In my case probably EHAM, EGLL, EDDF).

Did you not notice the Iberia livery in the release video?

might be a highly welcome income stream nowadays for airlines to license their logos and liveries

For me the pricing seems more than fair. How do I come to this conclusion?

  1. If I take my wife out for a nice dinner I'll pay more than the price for the standard version. The dinner will be over in 3 hours at the most and with the sim I'll have 3 nice hours every evening I want to fly. The premium version is still like 1/4 or 1/5 of the price we'll spend for a nice weekend trip with a hotel etc. So still a bargain to buy once.
  2. At my workplace when we have a (software) issue with some our our machines and the program/code needs some tweaking I have to hire a programmer for ~80€/hour (when he's cheap) and often it will take like a whole work day to fix and test it... so ~480€ for some "minor" improvement that will maybe safe 1 second of cycle time. When I now consider how many aircraft and sceneries had to be manually tweaked I think even 119€ is still a bargain.
  3. I just think they deserve it for finally bringing some new innovation to flight simulation because I've been very disappointed in how bad and backward things have  been since many years regarding computing technology in flight sims.

Sure they make some pretty screenshots....

It is going to be the flight model that will make or break this for the sim community I think. I can go play Ace Combat for super pretty graphics...yet I play DCS for the systems and flight modeling...

Before anyone says it, yes the stock P3D flight model isn’t the greatest, and sure Xplane feels better stock for stock as far as the included GA planes go, but this is being labeled as the most advanced physics/flight model ever....and it better deliver in all these promises everyone keeps claiming....

Sigh... that sentiment is concerning..  And im not talking about not wanting to use the sim if the flight model isnt correct on release. I would understand that.  ..but  Its the  making excuses for the 'flight sim community' using p3d despite the flight models of its stock planes. If asobo tries to have a world class flight model but falls short, the sim is no longer a sim?

Ultimately, .. i think this sim will be fine. Asobo put their hearts into this and they weren't responsible for MS Flight. And there is nothing that says a sim cant be pretty . And as long as the sim sticks around and 3rd party planes are made for it (PMDG etc , level 3rd party planes are always going to be better than stock planes) then eventually people will uncross their arms.  And i think it will stay around. Asobo is taking the right approach. They have been listening.

I mean.. im not saying you must buy the sim. If you enjoy your current sim and MFS2020 doesnt offer anything you want then why should you buy it. But i just dont understand putting the sim and/or its users into a box because you dont want it.

Im going for the Premium because I want that bizzjet & Dreamliner. Still havent decided wether to get the DVDs or got for digital.

On another note I will say the planes look way way way too clean. Very sterile look to them, specially the A320 which looks like a RC model at times. I with they had included sliders for wear, tear & dirt streaks but Im sure the modders will be on the case soon enough 😀
