Yeah I don't want to burst any bubble but most people will definitely be on Reddit/Steam discussions/Discord this is how it's done now,

True, but there's a hierarchy of skill/knowledge levels among the various platforms. The Steam forums have the most casual users, then reddit. I won't even rank Discord, but I've never found anything of use there with regard to technical support. AVSIM's forums will continue to attract the core flightsim crowd, but its users will visit the other three platforms too. I've found r/MicrosoftFlightSim so far to be a pretty good place to visit in order to get a wide variety of opinions and helpful hints. But reddit relies on good moderators to be useful. Once things get out of hand, an alternate subreddit springs up to replace the original.

I just popped over to visit and AVSIM is taking a beating there. The moderators of r/MicrosoftFlightSim better watch out, because if this is happening now, wait the title releases.

AVSIM takes a beating everywhere.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Why would I worry about it? The fact that it's happening already indicates that there is already a widening gap between the core flightsim community and traditional  gamers. My point was that a subreddit can only be as successful as its moderators.

Except that it's been happening for years.  This is nothing new.  And it also involves the hardcore flight simmers.

I recall a few years back Jim Young and Poppet were continually being roasted on Reddit for their moderating here. We've been called quite a few interesting names, none of which will get through our filters. I've had a few choice ones said about me too- I take it as a badge of honor.  🙂

Bottom line though is that I can see that even some of those haters come back here when they need help.

That is the important factor to me.

Vic,

I think LHookins is confusing AVSIm being disliked for its stringent moderating with being disliked in general. I totally agree that the former is true, but I spend more time on other flightsim sites than I do here (it didn't used to be that way) and I rarely have seen people on those sites saying one thing about AVSIM one way or the other. It's really bad manners to do so and in the same league as a developer publically criticizing another developer.

MSFS will have a forum all it’s own.

It might be likely it is more active than here as far as the game goes.

Not at all.  The "stringent moderating" is a totally separate issue that I didn't want to get into.

Like Vic says, Avsim is still the premier source for useful information.

The Avsim community has a reputation for having a hostile elitist attitude, which is highlighted by the comments about gamers here.  It is better today than it was in the past, but it is still there.

Hopefully the casual gamer types will go wade in the “kiddy” pool, I.e. elsewhere.  The first post I read asking for “cheats” and/or Easter eggs, I’ll probably lose my mind.

Sorry, your case is not made by one person's post. The vast majority of AVSIM members are polite and helpful. That makes it similar to other sources of online help.

I go to reddit to bash Avsim occasionally. And I've donated here. Play both sides and you can never lose. Or is that you can never win?

Awesome seeing this thread getting some official love in the Dev update...😂

Yep, it will. Hopefully they've hired enough interns to answer hundreds Zendesk tickets.
