Microsoft already has a search engine and an ad network and half a Trillion+ in market cap. And Google isn't that great anymore. Now results are what they think you are looking for rather than what you search. Personally I've switched over completely to DuckDuckGo. And in terms of Business that is where Microsoft excels, no pun intended. Only real threat AWS faces is Azure and they are growing so aggressively even with 4 year lag to AWS. FS2020 is really a great tech demo showing of what they are capable of and what their infrastructure is capable of.

August 17, 20205 yr Amazon and Google both have the infrastructure and engineers to do what MS is doing. I highly doubt it’s a space they care much about. And Google can recreate the world better than MS ever could dream of. I worked on an AR product that used Google data to do something very similar to what MS has done (albeit this was a PoC in a much smaller scale). The results were magnitude better than what MS is offering.

August 17, 20205 yr I don't know why anyone not making a flight simulator that competes with MSFS should be nervous. 😄 It's just another game, after all. MSFS is gonna be a big one, but it won't cut into the sales of other genres. Note: "Game" for business terms. "Flight simulator" for us. Same meaning, different words. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 17, 20205 yr The Google search engine front end is one of the most sophisticated pieces of AI there is. I'm hoping for a partnership between Lockheed Martin and Google to make a P3Dv6 with streaming scenery that will be far beyond what MSFS has. I suspect Google would do it just to thumb their noses at Bing. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

When you factor in all the flight simulation complexity that has to be performed on top of terrain rendering and tie that into your userbases' typical PC capabilities you'd likely end up in more or less the same space that MS/Asobo have landed in.

Hook I don`t think Google are interested not a big enough market, gamers will buy in then leave when the next big thing comes along, total sales do not take account of active simmers the highest in steam not that big. August 17, 20205 yr Just to make things clear: "What makes the new Flight so revolutionary is that it's simply the most detailed and realistic model of Earth yet created." Google Earth has much more terrain detail, and by far much more photogrammetry. I don`t know if Google Earth was the first one, but Bing Maps was a total clone of Earth. Now they even claim that they are better, what is defenately not true. "Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of Xbox, made some waves when he said that his company's true competitors in interactive entertainment were no longer traditional gaming rivals Sony and Nintendo, but rather Big Tech rivals Amazon and Google" The man got his eyes for the important things of the future: Gaming - Google and Amazon, especially Amazon will solely focus on .. Gaming. "Neumann went to Switzerland to meet with some hardcore weather nerds..." Nice that they find the right words to express themselves. They are trying to explain the nature of air by taking batteries, lot`s of batteries. Best way to go. I have seen recently this commercial in YouTube: Yes Microsoft, please focus on gaming and win the gaming fight against Google and Amazon.

Sure, this comparison is at hands, but to be honest, if you look closely those AI generated cities will lose almost every battle to the far, far superior amount of photgrammetry cities on Google Earth. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
August 17, 20205 yr It seems that so many of us have been simulating for so long that we have adopted a living in a "dream world" mentality. 😀 Most people could not care less about FS2020. They are too busy dealing with a pandemic. If a simmer thinks that FS2020 is going to turn gamers into certified pilots, when the gamer goes to their local airport to do the discovery flight, after they see the cost of getting their certificate, that's where it ends. Finally, those with money will use their private jets to fly anywhere in the world that they want to go and explore the world for real. Google & Amazon have nothing to be nervous about and should not even be in this conversation. Just for fun! MSFS
