Live Weather Inaccurate / not working

Recommended Posts

Can confirm Live weather not working for me either. Just flew 27 nm between small airports in Japan - Weather Metar did not match the conditions at all - just fine blue sky when it should have been 7/8ths cloud coverage at 3000 feet.. and 7 kts wind  (no wind).

Also NZAA to NZRA - short hop - clouds accurate and spectacular, but the gusty winds we are experiencing last 24 hours are totally absent - was expecting a bumpy experience in my light sport aircraft

Sitting literally 5 minutes from KBJC, thunder and lightning outside and within the sim it's few clouds at FL120. This really is an amateur hour from Asobo, hopefully this will get fixed with the patch on the 27th.

The patch is not coming on the 27th. We will be told on the 27th when the patch will be released.

cheers

Just flew the west coast again and weather was accurate. Oddly the sun was off as it should have been dark out, but was sunny for a while...

My biggest weather complain is I constantly get low cloud/fog forming, no mater what the local METAR says.

There's an airport under the cloud in this picture, but the current METAR is:

1. Where did this information come from? Did Asobo put out info post release somewhere?

2. If after release, this is to me, great news. As I've said, I didn't expect this product so soon anyway so hearing that something is in the works and getting a date for fixes (assuming we'll hear what the majors are) is something I can easily wait for and have fun reintroducing myself to basic seat of my pants flying again. With this scenery, that will not be such a terrible thing. It beats not having the app at all and just wondering what everything will be like.

I think it's their prediction code, it's showing weather to far into the future instead of predicting based on the sim's current time.

They said in the Q&A video they might add METAR sourced weather in the future instead of just relying on just meteoblue.

I think you might be right. I did a flight over my town last night on live weather, and it was soupy and rainy. IRL it was still clear, but there was a front moving in and turned overcast/rainy after about 2 hours.

Thanks. Again, we now know they're alive and kicking and that a patch is in the works. Awesome. My worst-case scenario is off the table which was of them just going dark for too long a period and the community going nuts.

What does weather satelite data show you for that area at that given time?

A user in another thread is claiming that the winds aloft issue appears to have gotten an update (and is working at least for him):

I’m certainly hoping this is the case. I will have the opportunity to test this in about an hour. If the source of the problem has always been on the server end, it is definitely possible that the fix would not have required Asobo to load any kind of patch to end users. If it is now fixed, that would be great news, but if so, I wish they would have started investigating potential weather server problems when the issue was first reported multiple times during the alpha. Waiting until after the public release to finally “do something about it”, is not good PR.

My area has been overcast with light rain all morning. I fired up the sim to check and see.....overcast with light rain! Didn't have time to check out winds aloft, but hey, at least it's progress.

Can you check some other geographical area with stormy weather and report back? That would be awesome if they found a bug on their servers and no physical application update was needed.

I've been trying to chase storms in MFS but not having much luck. Everywhere I go that's currently experiencing severe storms IRL has mostly clear skies in MFS. Is there a trick to it?

I didn't try for storms, but I did have luck loading up accurate soupy and rainy conditions around Vancouver last evening and in another go near Melbourne Australia where it was quite cloudy with intermittent rain. But it only seems to work on my first flight of a session - any subsequent flights I get the same clear skies and light winds no matter where I go. If I close the sim and restart it, I seem to be able to load Live Weather again but only for one flight.

I also notice that in the Live Map, the reported winds at an airport is blank (no readings) when Live Weather is acting buggy. So it seems the weather just isn't initializing somehow, whether at the server end, the user end or in between.

I will give it another go tonight to test some more.
