Live Weather Inaccurate / not working

Featured Replies

Live weather is one of the best features imo. It has been perfect for me so far as I fly around my home area. Winds and sky both perfect. A lot of complainers on this board.

I fly around North America mostly and the live weather is totally busted.  My solution has been to keep toggling live weather to preset, back and forth, until the wind at your departure airport shows something different than 270 @ 2kts.  I guess it's like an old engine, you just have to hit it with a wrench to get it going.  🙂

Lots of issues with weather. Live weather has been hit or miss for me... sometimes it works HOWEVER, ATIS does not work... never is accurate. Temperatures are not correct. There is basically no wind... ever. The wind sock doesn't work, it is fully "erect" until you are close to it (which means if ATIS and wind sock doesn't work you have no way to know what runway to land, but there is no wind so who cares). Pressures are not right. They have alot of fixing to do.

There is a bug in the weather engine. Even though MeteoBlue is providing winds aloft worldwide, for some reason the upper winds are not being injected into the sim environment if the aircraft is positioned anywhere in the continental United States. Winds, both surface and aloft, will always be approximately 225 degrees at 3 knots.

Surface and aloft winds appear to work well in Europe. They work in Southern Mexico, but not in Northern Mexico.

This geographic location-related winds bug is not new. It has existed for a long time, and was reported dozens of times. To see that it still exists in the release version is a major disappointment.

Asobo just falling flat. This is one of the bugs that should have been in the top 10 to address before release.

270@2 seems to be the default wind for the clear skies weather theme. My experience has been that Live Weather will inject clouds, temperature and pressure in the US, but not winds. Perhaps repeatedly toggling the Live Weather button will “wake up” the missing wind.

The thing is though, that winds will work on first load 90 percent of the time if the starting airport is in Europe (or at least the UK, which is the only place I have checked.

Another apparent bug is that Live Weather will not work at any airport if you have already loaded an aircraft, then go back to the main menu and choose a different aircraft or a different airport. In that case you have to exit the sim completely and start fresh.

The characteristic signs that Live Weather is not working at all would be;

No clouds

No wind

Pressure 29.92

Temperature 15C

I'm getting 50-60 winds above France right now at FL390

Did this match the real winds aloft report?

There is no “real” winds aloft reports available from any weather source. Winds aloft always come from computer forecast models - they are always predictions. US aviation winds aloft come from the NOAA GFS computer model. European aviation uses the the ECMWF model.

MeteoBlue has their own proprietary forecast model which is actually pretty well-regarded in meteorological circles. For any given lat/lon coordinate in the world, you could get several different predictions of what the wind and temperature will be at a given altitude depending on which model forecast was used.

Ahg that’s what I meant. I know winds aloft is reported in 6 hour increments & that it’s all forecasted information. I just mean did the sim’s winds aloft match the forecasts?

Great that its working for you, but with all due respect you have no idea whether it is working for others.

Well, I just loaded the sim right now and dialed in KACK. Shows wind as 239 @ 11. Just looked up the metar, which was updated 4 mins ago, and the real winds are 190 @ 6. :((

That’s great, but it’s really not working accurately or well for most of us. Love the sim, but the winds and clouds not matching the metar is a huge bummer.

Ummm, Day two from release!!!

How many days since Alpha?

Thanks for clarifying. That's not what I wanted to hear...

But it's what many of us suspected, which is why I was saying it's a bit premature to go from 0 to 100 calling for Active Sky as the solution to this already. As I said, this car needs a tune-up, not an entirely new engine.

The list is rather long at this point. As I said, time is our friend here and if they don't give us some input on this, that time is going to DRAG by in nasty ways.

Wind bug was reported back in beta. I guess it wasn't priority
