Live Weather Inaccurate / not working

Live weather is one of the best features imo. It has been perfect for me so far as I fly around my home area. Winds and sky both perfect. A lot of complainers on this board.

Well that’s patently untrue. The winds are “not” perfect in all regions of the world as live winds are not always being implemented. Many, many users are reported that in many parts of the world the wind is defaulting to 3kts with Live Weather applied.

Just because YOU think that everything is working perfectly for YOU, doesn’t negate that there is a real issue with live weather right now.

Let's hope they make SDK provisions for weather add-ons some day.  As of now, none exist that we are aware of.  We did work hard on preparing something for MSFS, in hopes that they would eventually make weather SDK functions work, and that work is ready if they open it up later on.  Until then we are locked out.

Yet another reason I look forward to P3D v5.1, EA out of beta and our beloved Activesky running the weather.

Did you know, that yesterday was National Aviation Day? Tuesdays are traditionally release days for new games so Microsoft could not release yesterday but they chose the closest date. Coincidence? I don't think so! They planned to release the sim on 18 August, weather (no pun intended) or not it was 100% ready for takeoff. Now let's enjoy what we have and report the issues like many here have mentioned. They'll get fixed.

Wouldn't it be nice in real life if the winds were always 3knots... LOL. Hope they sort this out. It is annoying!

Ahg that’s what I meant. I know winds aloft is reported in 6 hour increments & that it’s all forecasted information. I just mean did the sim’s winds aloft match the forecasts?

With 4 or 5 meteorological agencies reporting forecasted winds aloft for aviation , it would depend on which particular forecast you compare against.

Any winds coming from a US source, which includes aviationweather.gov, Foreflight and ActiveSky would be coming from the US GFS model. I’m not sure about PFPX, they might be using the European model.

Since MeteoBlue probably uses their own in-house model, the thing to compare against would be the MeteoBlue web site, or their iOS or Android weather apps.

I've been trying to chase storms in MFS but not having much luck. Everywhere I go that's currently experiencing severe storms IRL has mostly clear skies in MFS. Is there a trick to it?

Yeah I've never seen a 'live' thunderstorm in MSFS. the most i've gotten is heavy rain.

Sitting literally 5 minutes from KBJC, thunder and lightning outside and within the sim it's few clouds at FL120. This really is an amateur hour from Asobo, hopefully this will get fixed with the patch on the 27th.

I doubt it, the comments they made in the the Q&A sounds like it's a long term goal.

I mean how do you eff up the weather in the dang flight simulator?!?!? How?!!?!? FFS!

I think it's their prediction code, it's showing weather to far into the future instead of predicting based on the sim's current time.

They said in the Q&A video they might add METAR sourced weather in the future instead of just relying on just meteoblue.

I am so ticked off. Between the weather, installation issues and other things I'm discovering - how do you mess this basic stuff up?

The problem here is the use of Meteoblue forecast model as the weather source.

Exactly!
