If Bing didn't exist - would MS have still made a new sim?

I think Plan A was Microsoft Flight... release a sim in dribs and drabs during development.  Then the sim community exploded in rage at not wanting to fly a Hawaiian GA sim.  (For the record, if you did want a Hawaiian GA sim, it was actually pretty good)   I think that the realization that they could leverage the mapping potential for other things is what sold MS on releasing a sim again.  The interesting part is that they did sort of subcontract FSX out to Dovetail and FSW while they were secretly working on this.

Dovetail are grifters though, they wanted to corner the market and turn flight simming into a (often glitchy) DLC mall like their Train Simulator is. After Flight Sim World bombed epically they had nothing left to grift except a slightly fixed FSX

I also did the tile story. Too flat, & if there were clouds in the sky when the 'tile' was taken, that cloud was draped over the tiles. Also different shaded tiles, patchwork style. Dumped it. I was using Tileproxy..

Well I feel I can't believe they have released this and missed of Airports. Especially the likes of Stuttgart and Istanbul and the others that have been mentioned.

Because neither of those airports exist on Bing Maps. Stuttgart is censored, and the Istanbul satellite imagery pre-dates the airport's construction.

The point  I was trying to make is that they are using at lest 5 year old imagines in the 4th largest city in the u.s.a. That to me is not what they are advertising.

All I hear is you can fly over you house. Well my house is not there lol.

They never said the imagery was up to date in their advertising.

And there is the key word.. Advertising!!

You seriously really believe that advertising is 100% acurate??

And you also believe that Red Bull gives you wings?

7.6 out of 10 people think so.

It's an impossibility to have up to date orthos everywhere in the world. This method is still far preferable to landclass.

You have to accept the limits of the data and technology

I think you misinterpreted my post.

One of the many (but more urgent) things ASOBO has to fix is how it handles areas obscured by clouds:

Yes I have the same scenery I made with fs tiles. the exact same view in fsx and pr3d lol. And that was 4 years a go when I was making my own scenery

Funny thing, I can fly over my house and the local little league park in the default scenery!  I didn't have to make a thing.  You could fly over my house and my local little league park too if you had any reason to, without having to make it yourself.  And I could fly over your little league park without having to acquire your custom scenery.

I'm pretty sure I made mention of "default scenery" in the post you were responding to.

Everybody knows you only believe what is said on AVSIM and FacePalm.

You still don't get my point 4th largest city in the USA and that is the best they can do.

I posted on this synchronicity back in July. My guess is that they're using our experiences to help the tweak various aspects of Bing. Building assets and infrastructure for the sim, based on the mountains of data freely provided by users (Steam alone is showing tens of thousands of online experiences daily, only six days in), is doing the same for Bing. Somewhere at MS, someone at a desk in the Bing department is probably being paid to push a button that says, "synchronize" at the end of each work day.

I don't really think MS is committing their apparently  ten-year development plan for this sim to make a better experience for people who like computer games; gaming is a fraction of their business, and this sim a fraction of that fraction). The money would be in doing something with Bing. Maybe in ten years, the flight simmer isn't buying the sim, they're buying a key to unlock the sim features buried in Bing.

What else can they do? If they can't see anything under the clouds they can't render it.

They could detect clouds and then place some higher res autogen there. Like offline scenery. It's not realistic but way better than that blurry mess.
