September 2, 20205 yr Does anyone know? I see some people extracting landmarks from Google maps and inserting them in msfs2020 scenery, so does that mean Bing is more basic?
September 2, 20205 yr Google Maps is vastly superior. Hopefully the competitors will develop something similar to MSFS and use Google Maps. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

September 2, 20205 yr Bing only has around 400 photogrammetry cities (3D cities), most of them in the US. Google has photogrammetry for most of the cities with a population over 100 000, at least in North America and Europe. Also, the resolution of these cities seems to be better in general. In the majority of places I compared Google also has better imagery. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
September 2, 20205 yr I don't find Bing maps to be severely impeding the visual fidelity of the MSFS. On the other hand, integrating data from Open Street Maps would greatly improve the realism of roads, power lines, buildings, etc. Think World4XP in the other simulator.

September 2, 20205 yr In my region, Google is far, far superior. I'm talking general aerial photography, since I'm in a rural area where they likely won't waste time with photogrammetry. Then again, I do have Google Earth for Oculus Rift, which is kinda like a flight sim in that I can "fly" over a 3D representation of Google Maps (like Superman), and it does does photogrammetry-like trees, buildings, etc even for back roads. I'm not sure if this is something done on the servers or the app. I'm still a bit baffled how the mighty Microsoft allowed both Google and Apple to beat them so badly when it comes to map services. Microsoft was offering quality maps on CD / DVD long before Google was even a big deal, so to drop the ball like this is both surprising and disappointing. September 2, 20205 yr The new MSFS might be the start of the sprint to catch up competition though. If MSFS thrives, Bing maps will be improved from feedbacks, and vice versa. Joohon Chae

Wow, I had completely forgotten about that, but you're right. Heck, I even once bought MS Streets & Trips (probably still have it somewhere) just because it was so much better than the online competition. But, that's what MS does with seemingly every other project since Windows 95/98 - drop the ball. Let's hope MSFS can fully escape its pedigree - remember how FSX was supposed to "showcase" another flop, Vista? At least it has probably already surpassed the Zune. Yeah, imagine P3D would use Google Maps the same way or better as MSFS does with Bing. I know what I would do ... September 2, 20205 yr Just amazing how much misinformation people spread around to fit their narrative. Mind blowing sometimes. Lucky MSFS 2020 is backed by a company worth over a Trillion dollars and have teams of very educated people. edit: outside my house I don't see our Oak tree we planted last year , omg jk I cut down all the oak trees for firewood Edited September 2, 20205 yr by SirDan i7-8600k @ 3.70 GHz 16.0 GB Ram OS Win 10-64 bit Geforce GTX 1070

I'm not a fan of Google (I'm a DuckDuckGo guy myself), and I left the Apple Cult a few years ago, so I'm all for Bing catching up with Google in regards to the quality of their aerial photography, photogrammetry, and stats (what building is what). Speaking of, does Google have its own fleet of planes like they do cars for streetview, or do they hire a third party mapping service to provide their aerial photography? If the latter, I don't see why Bing couldn't use the same service to bring their maps up to par.

This maybe, a flying simulation (that can later translate into space has vast potentials for instruction and models) The actual reason why Microsoft was surpassed by Google and Apple is clear. Bill Gates got old and philantropic, resentful of the computer segment, he is into vaccines now. If Microsoft sees the future and power of Flightsim far beyond a game it will hire satellite time to renew maps Edited September 2, 20205 yr by kapitan
