Yeah I was pretty disappointed after flying into Vegas at night last week.  The buildings are there, but not brightly lit like I expected.  I don't know if the city is hand done or just really good AI on the ground texture as a quick look showed the buildings were there but I didn't look to see how accurate it was.

I don't think there is a photogrammetry texture for night time, so all the buildings are dark.  Autogen buildings might have night textures, but then you lose out on the "uniqueness" of the buildings and are left with generic buildings.

Do a test and turn off photogrammetry and rerun at night.  Are the buildings lit?  They won't be the right size or possibly even shape, but you should see lit up buildings I would think.

agreed, Las Vegas doesn't look finished.  The lights look cut and paste like the other cities

Kind regards,

Tim

I think photogrammetry is great, but does have some limitations at this time, such as distinctive night lighting for some buildings and the infamous "wall" under bridges. Hope to see this improved in the future...

I even checked google earth and they don't have a "night" mode.  So it's pretty unreasonable to think that there is any photogrammetry data that would have night textures.  It's much easier to develop a "handful" of generic building textures and build a day and night texture for them.  Then let autogen do the rest.

But if you are going to use photogrammetry, you're going to be dark.  You simply can't make night textures for every single photogrammetric building out there.

This means an opportunity for scenery designers.  In the meantime, if we are flying at night, turning off photogrammetry should give us a close enough approximate of night lighting in urban areas.  And, since it's dark, we won't really recognize them as autogen buildings as easily.  Just a thought.

I was very disappointed with the Luxor sky light not present...

Yup, hope Vegas can be lit up by some devoted developers!

And P3D....Would love to see this ported over. FlyTampa does a great job

Ok, now that I have flown the area at night and now know what I'm talking about, I must say that MS has done at least an honest attempt to add night lighting to photogrammetric buildings.  Sure, it looks like a net of Christmas Tree lights draped over the building, often make no sense and  don't show up until you are right up on the building, but it's a start.

And as others have said, a great opportunity exists for scenery designers to develop some mind blowing scenery's as the canvas is pretty astonishing to begin with.

That being said, What's been offered thus far vanilla out of the box has FAR exceeded anything released thus far.  And as someone who had to suffer through flying through Minecraft crafted clouds in FS98, let me say that my sunset flight from KFLL to KEYW tonight was sublime,

Everything isn't going to be perfect, but I was surprised to see that Vegas had no special attention for the night lighting.

I "will" be the first in line to buy an addon that does Vegas night...right....and this is coming from a guy who swore he would not buy scenery addons for MSFS.

But its Vegas man, we have to get Vegas right. I have bought a Vegas addon for every other flight sim out there...including DCS world.
