Great news, hopefully be less negativity around here now, and the Sim bashing can stop

agreed except when it crashes to desktop more than it should

Does anyone know if the navigation database has been or will be updated? The rumor was that the initial release of MSFS had a "July-August 2020"  version, but of course, now we are in September. The BGL file dates in the navigation and airport folders are still the same as when installed.

The Airbus and 747 FMS both still show the same May 4th  to July 4th “pseudo” AIRAC dates that they did in the alpha.

The 787 FMS shows the current AIRAC cycle which began August 13th, and which ends on September 10th. So, if there is going to be a NavBlue AIRAC update, I would expect to see it on or after the 10th. It might come in the form of an automatic update that gets pushed when starting the sim.

I don’t know if Asobo simply forgot to update the FMS coding in the Airbus and 747 from the alpha versions of those two aircraft, allowing them to read the actual AIRAC cycle, or if the 787 is just “faking it” by consulting a list of the AIRAC cycles for 2020 and displaying the “right” cycle based on the current computer date.

I believe that the NVXxxx.bgl files you mentioned contain the actual navaids embedded in the scenery and airports, just as those same files do in FSX and P3D. This would include VOR’s, NDBs, Marker Beacons, Localizers, Glideslopes and DMEs. I’d like to think that those navaids are current, but I have some doubts. When I fly either of the two ILS approaches at my home airport, I receive an outer marker signal where the two OMs used” to be. The problem is, they were both decommissioned over 4 years ago....

The AIRAC data would be what the airliner and bizjet FMSs and G-1000/3000/5000 use for waypoints, airways, ILS and RNAV approaches, SIDS, STARS etc. Those would normally be updated every 28 days. I don’t think the FMS nav data in the sim is coming from the BGLs you mentioned, I have not yet figured out exactly where that data is stored. It might be encrypted, since NavBlue is a real-world provider of AIRAC data for real aircraft as well as supplying it for MSFS.

Big shot Microsoft marketing manager: Man, this is amazing, over 1 million gamers are playing MSFS!

Asobo employee, thinning hair, nerdy glasses, pocket protector: But, sir, we need to fix the Turboprop logic. Fixing this is a real priority to the sim community. It got 230 upvotes.

Big shot Microsoft marketing manager looking puzzled: who is this guy? Get the f... outta here!

This update compensates the small disappointment about the sim issues nothing burger of the last patch. 🙂

I like how they try to improve the interaction with the community. Which is quite a task, given how large the userbase of MSFS is.

The voting system in the official forum is a good approach!

Personal favorite: Turboprop issue is #5. So they gotta address that soon. 👍

Good to see them addressing the most pressing issues. I also like the new roadmap. Would have liked to hear something about the marketplace, i.e. when they expect the problems to be solved.

What were the actual complaints about inertia being insufficient...? What airplanes? I haven’t noticed much of an issue.

This is up for debate. I personally believe FSX didn’t need as much ‘fixing’ as MSFS does.
MSFS Great scenery yeah (apart from when it turns blurry above 7000ft, or has crappy low res ortho). Not so great autopilots, flight controls (alpha yoke bugs, caused by msfs), weather bugs, etc etc etc......

So yes, it’s great that they continue to update it, however, out of the box, FSX was far more useable for a pilot.

Well in all fairness FSX did need two service packs to get it to where it finally finished.

Things did “work” as far as the weather, autopilots and things of that nature, but the community had to put up with the performance issues and install 3rd party vector data for roads, coastlines, etc, as well as 3rd party landclass, ground texture, and cloud texture replacements to make it look better. At least with MSFS we don’t need to do that end of it since the scenery and clouds look good out of the box.
