Orbx True Earth Florida

Featured Replies

What's everybody think about this one?  I've never purchased a True Earth product mainly because I either wasn't interested in the geographic area or because i had performance concerns (California).  But I fly to Florida often.  Are these products nice with airliner type flying?  That's exclusively what I do in P3D.

It will take up a bunch of HD space and will need a fast cpu or else you will get blurriness.

my signature has my specs.  Storage space should be fine.

These don’t actually take up much storage space by modern standards, and blurries are not an issue on good hardware.

I have all the P3D TrueEarth and all of the X-plane ones as well (including florida).

My thoughts?

- Well, it gives you an experience that is not dissimilar to msfs2020 (ortho plus overlay). Not quite as good. But conceptually similar and in the same ballpark.
- The ortho is quite low quality, but then again the ortho in MSFS is pretty rubbish resolution-wise as well. Making you own ortho and replacing the orbx one (and keeping the overlay) will get the best results.

- It’s better value than the main competitor, MSE, which does not have an overlay (overlay=“autogen”=objects piaced on photoscenery).
- Ortho scenery works best in p3d v5 with EA on. Earlier p3d did have sime blurries, v5 doesn;t and ea suits ortho nicely.

I’ll buy florida, because p3d is still my main sim and i like flying in the area. Honestly, though, i’m findjng that i prefer airline flying with straight home-made ortho (no overlay), and that’s what i’m doing 80% of the time at the moment.

I also have all the TE products for XP and P3D. It’s interesting how P3D uses less space for the same TE region as XP. With my specs, I get decent frames with TE and a PMDG 737 for instance. What program are you using to create custom orthos?

If I were using X-Plane I would have bought it long ago I guess, but a bit late now for me.

I’ve been using FS Earth Tiles to make ortho for years, but shifted to the P3D version of Ortho4XP in 2019. It’s a lot of fun, and pretty easy, to brew scenery with this tool.

I find that a lot of P3D users don’t know much about ortho-building in this sim, which is a shame as both p3d and ortho are great for airliners. I’ve been meaning to write a “how to” post on Ortho4XP P3D, will try to get it done when real life slows down a bit!

That sounds good. I used it in xplane and i was quite overwelmed. How do you get AutoGen/Buildings done?

Sadly this just reminds me that there’s still not a decent KMCO available for  P3D. I have the taxi2gate but have various issues so don’t fly in there.

MCO is a great airport in real life and it really deserves some developer attention, I don’t understand why it hasn’t received any.

BTW the  nimbus version for XP is very good and the MSFS “hand crafted “ version is ok.

What issues with mco?  Mine works great in v5 with t2g. Did you put the inibuilds compatibility patch on?

T2G KMCO works fine in P3D v4 especially if you have FTX Orlando installed. There are no duplicate signs and bridges do not disappear. You can also add the DL by Inibuilds.

It looks great on my P3D v4.5. Not sure if it works in P3D v5.

Right, thanks for that I’ll have a look into it. I was getting trees and vegetation on taxiways so gave up Using it.

I still think it needs a new flytampa or orbx  version though !🙂

We will be getting an orbx palm beach soon I think.  At least something is coming.  🙂
