Orbx True Earth Florida

On the plus side, I'm getting 80 FPS with the F-35 with a lot of objects on the ground. I still love P3D for its VR and TrueSky/Ortho combo up high, and Orbx's photoscenery looks pretty solid at flying altitiude.

OK, back to flying now. Cheers!

In v4.5 everything is fine, but in v5 Florida does not work with latinVFR Miami.  DXGI  haunts me even with the old weather     There must be too many objects

What is the resolution of the photoscenery supposed to be? In addition to the jagged edge of the coastline beach, I note that the pond at your test airport also seems to have a very jagged outline....

The jagged ocean and pond is a function of the watermasking. I don't know why they've gone with such primitive masks, it's odd.

The orthoscenery is marked "LOD15". If this is really ZL15, I'm wondering why they would do that. I only use ZL15 very occasionally, e.g. for bits of central Australia where I know I'm going to be at 30,000 feet+.

Ugly ortho kind of defeats the purpose of TrueEarth, which is to have some nice objects for when you're down low. At 10,000 feet, the scenery looks the same in most areas whether you've got objects turned on or not.

As far as I am aware, LOD15 is 1.2m per pixel. This resolution can look reasonably good if the data quality is high, but it can also look downright ugly if the source data is washed out and over saturated.

I've done a couple of flights.

Is it fun? Yes!

Flying rather than testing reminds why i love this sim:

e1OdeKs.jpg

- I get to fly in an A2A plane, you have got to love the Comanche. It feels real, unlike my subjective experience when I use another well-known sim.

- With proper traffic, here at default/Orbx KTPA.

- In VR.

- With TrueSky clouds/EA, which despite its glitches is a great step forward.

- With proper control of historical weather (ActiveskyP3D).

In total, I've still enjoyed my quick flights this evening and this is still my favorite sim platform/

Temper your expectations for Orbx Florida, but overall I don't regret my purchase.

I don't regret mine either.  But only have done testing.  Will have to give a real flight test soon.  I have many payware addons in V5 like DAB, JAX, PNS, TPA, MCO, RSW, FLL, MIA, EYW.  They are all working good now after moving them to a higher priority in the scenery order.  A few I had to delete the orbx true earth files (Well actually turn off) associated with the airports.  But I'm happy I got it.

Looks the best at 5,000 and up.

Just a reminder...that I had forgotten...the Orbx Central Library feature.

On my drive that hosts v4.5, I only had 54 GB's of room left.  I could not install TE-Florida within v4.5 until I remembered that you can place the install, using the Library feature of Central and did so. So...now V4.5 has TE Florida.  I'm interested on my first flight to compare with its installation in v5.HF2  Will be interesting to see if there is truly any difference to the monitor.

TE Florida looks at least 35 % better  (in MPO), running under v4.5 than v5HF2.  Better color...looks much more natural between the two versions of P3D.

Just following on from that, another Orbx thread regarding v4.5 vs v5 comparison and others are commenting that in v5 its too bright.

Opinion seems to be TE Florida is much better shown in its glory in v4.5 than what v5 is currently capable of.

https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/199379-trueearth-us-florida-for-p3d4-close-to-release/

Now I would not lay the blame at Orbx because v5 has its issues with lighting since the PBR was changed by LM. I'm seeing that with some of the aircraft I fly in v5 HF2 too.

Hopefully v5.1 will hep to resolve some  of these artefacts we are currently seeing.

In V5 I'm just trying to troubleshoot Aerosoft DAB.  Since TE installed i now have this weird block of pavement at start of 7L

I have been trying out the new TE Florida in P3d V5 over the last couple of days. This is my first experience with these products and so far I find them to be not that great. I am not sure if it is my settings but it is just not clear and the roads as well as the buildings especially the houses all look very white and bright. I have noticed the same in several of the pics here in the forums. Just as a point of reference, I also pretty much think the scenery in MS2020 looks pretty much like word not allowed even though everyone seems to be going goo goo ga ga. It may just be that this stuff is not for me, I don't know. Do others feel this way or am I just missing info on how to use it and set up my machine. This is not a slam on either product I am just kind of scratching my head trying to figure this one out.

Came here looking for a solution to TE Florida being ridiculously bright at night.  Wondering if you’re V5 or 4.5?  Those dusk lights look amazing.

Version 4.5 HF3.

But, I was also using a modified PTA preset and REX Skyforce sky themes. Both PTA and REX Sky themes made a huge difference in how the sim looked. I've since deleted P3D v4.5 out of my SSD and moved on to MSFS. The sky, clouds, & water in MSFS are second to none. The world is covered in photoscenery. The cities are alive and realistic and MSFS just feels realistic for the type of simming that I enjoy.

Check out some of my threads in the screenshot forum and you will see some examples of why I've moved on.

Best regards.

Jose

@DJJose I have both.  There is one problem.  A massive one.  The aircraft in MSFS!!

The Carenado Mooney, Lionheart's TB20, the P 149D,  and a Carenado PA44 are excellent for the type of simming that I do. The JF Arrow will soon release and that will be a nice SEL GA.

They are mostly not study level, but I love that they are fun to fly. To me that's what's important in a flight simulator. It has to be beautiful and the planes have to be fun to fly.
