Marveled at the instrument panel, which looked worlds better than FS4's. But the planes just looked like a French Impressionist went nuts on 'em. Very pixelated. And the scenery was... I guess in some ways better than FS4's, especially with buildings that actually looked like they were built out of something other than tissue paper, but not worth the severe performance hit. It wasn't nearly as smooth as FS4. I think I messed with 5 for a week or two before I went back to FS4. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
September 24, 20205 yr While many on here spend countless hours defending their favorite sim/game while feeling the need to dismiss and criticize the others, I spent much of my day enjoying MSFS, X-Plane and DCS (sorry I do not have P3D installed on my PC). And guess what; I had a blast with each one! Each has their limitations and strengths, and yes I do dream of a single sim doing EVERYTHING right. Nothing looks prettier in VFR flight than MSFS. I can't get enough of the fast jets and accurately modeled systems of DCS. And X-Plane still gives me that feeling of actually piloting an airplane like MSFS has yet to do (I fly in VR in DCS and X-Plane, so perhaps that feeling of actual flight will come to MSFS when it becomes VR capable). I could easily point out several things I do not love about each of these games. But I really don't feel the need when I am having more fun with my clothes on than I have had in a long time with all of them! 😉 Let's just be happy for the competition and the hope that the developers of each up their games as a result. We all win from that! Edited September 24, 20205 yr by PlumCrazy mispelling
September 24, 20205 yr I just flew from Flagstaff to Sedona, and I'm left wondering why Asobo picked Sedona as a featured airport rather than Flagstaff. I get that Sedona is a scenic spot IRL, but it's actually not that great in the flight sim compared to Flagstaff. I'd much rather have KFLG as a "prime" airport. Either that or make the town of Sedona photorealistic.

Beautiful scenery and perched on the top of a mesa. However... The use of Sedona as the area for the training missions is a head scratcher for me. The airport elevation already sits at 4800' msl. Performance of the C152 at sea level is already questionable because of the strange mixture issue. Throw in another 5000' of true altitude much less density altitude into the mix (does MSFS even model significant density altitude effects?) and you potentially have a bunch of new virtual pilots wondering why they can't get their plane to climb without stalling. I know what you mean Sedona is a favorite travel destination and I was bummed to see it really wasn't all that great in MSFS--I figured it would be really fabulous. September 24, 20205 yr I just flew into KSEZ yesterday in RL and like the ORBX version. Actually it is a pretty boring place but the scenery that ORBX provides is nice. September 25, 20205 yr makes you sort of realise how ideal KCGX Meig's Field was as a training location back in the day.

September 25, 20205 yr Author Didn’t realize my comments had evolved into an 11 page, sometimes heated exchange. MSFS will be repaired and fun, especially when you start getting the flagship airplane add-ons. Your frustration stems from faulty default planes, not the sceneries. P3D is the past. I remember my PC getting crushed while flying over marginal sceneries. Yes MSFS is tough on frames but the level of immersion is breadth taking. All to say, those trashing MSFS will come to appreciate and love the game. Time heals. Edited September 25, 20205 yr by Huascar

Basically a month between updates/patches at present. Crazy long for this big development team everyone speaks of. Right now this product is nothing more than a video game to view world scenery. After all the hype has started to settle I hope people realize XP & p3D are better choices at present for a flight simulator. For game playing this product gets the job done! Some day it may be a first class simulation but it has a very long time to go while other companies work on what they have. I believe they will improve along the same timeline that it will take to fix this rushed product. No praise from here and no adulation for this game in any aspect. If all you do is twiddle with a flight computer and want to simulate the cockpit of airliners on IFR flight plans, then maybe I can see your point. P3D is probably better for the large airliner simulations for folks who want to pretend to be an airline captain. And nothing wrong with that at all. I’ve been using MSFS since the late 1980s (as many of you have), and I’ve been a real world instrument rated pilot for almost 25 years. I fly single engine land. Took primary training in a C152 and instrument training in a Garmin 530 equipped C172. This latest version of the sim is the absolute best for VFR flight...hands down. No contest. No argument. Having said that, the stock aircraft leave a bit to be desired and IFR flight isn’t much at the moment. Waiting for A2A and others to do what they do, and I can’t imagine going back to P3D with flat 2D photoscenery, or worse...the generic vector scenery with random houses, buildings, trees and roads. So P3D took us to 64 bit and filled a niche for the last decade, but this latest MSFS with cloud integration is a paradigm shift. It’s not perfect but I’m enjoying it.
October 1, 20205 yr I can agree with you one one point. VFR/GA is the best it has going for it at the moment. Even saying this there are annoying bugs that have needed fixing for awhile. I was flying the C172 this morning and Avionics BUS2 shut off during flight for no reason. Just one bug of thought from today. I encounter stuff like this throughout the game on a daily basis. We need small hot fixes addressing persistent bugs not large updates that break as much as is fixed.
