How do I clean my windshield?

Featured Replies

The more I fly my C172 (non G1000), the more smudges and fingerprints appear on the side windows.  The bug splats on the front windscreen appear to be about the same but  there are definitely more fingerprints on the window glass beside me so Im wondering if there is or will be a way to wash the windshield?  anyone know?  anyone else notice this?

I hope its not just my imagination.

Time for a window-washing mod.

Or how about a button on the windshield wiper lever that throws water on the window...

Sorry I couldn't resist, please forgive me 🙂

1. First you have to get this :

2. After spraying use cloth . Apply gentle vertical strokes to clean. Remember plexiglass can be easily scratched !

I'm hoping they'll add washing and general maintenance to the hangar.  They spent all that effort creating the place but it doesnt really do much.  Might be nice to change the oil and spark plugs and stuff on certain aircraft.

took me ages to work out how to turn the wipers on in the King Air.

What fool put the switch up in the top panel.

all of the new smudges I see are on the side window next to the pilot's seat.  They show up in the reflection of the  sun. I will look for wipers though.  havent seen them yet.

Agree, I would like to see a possibility to get rid of them, too.

Kind regards, Michael

The workaround is lowering the video setting to 'medium' for the windshield effects. Total hack but it helps.

There is a config setting.....more info after I get off work. (there really is...I found it when playing around with some other config items...it should work on all default AC....not sure about custom addons like Carenado as I've been poking around in their files and see some glass textures I need to play with....My Mooney's windscreen is way too dirty for me....)

Promise to share when I get off work and on my home PC (if someone else doesn't' 1st)   Gotta run to a mtg!

I'd also like to be able to turn this off.  I have to imagine if I owned a TBM930, the windshield wouldn't look like a beaten up old car.

Or we if can't turn this off, maybe we need to double down on the realism by adding some "DONT TOUCH SCREENS" label maker labels to all the G1000 cockpits, and fingerprint smudges all over the G1000 screens....  Maybe some stains on the seats and carpet....

I always found it odd that a lot of real world aircraft have a low hour recently fitted engine and a brand spanking new Garmin but otherwise look like a beaten up old car. Must be the aviation equivalent of the rat rod trend.
