Does anyone believe Nvidia's protestations? Every time they release a new series of video cards, bots overwhelm their official online store. Is Nvidia a leading tech company or not? They can't stop bots from buying out all their stock? What a joke!

They're suppose to be an AI company and yet they can't make an AI to counter the bots. Ridiculous.

EVGA is doing something about Bots to the best they can.... they setup a queue system that when product sku inventory is available the ones whom hit the auto notify button on the product page actually get to buy without bots stealing from your cart.

I set up my auto notify on the 26th of September. So hopefully I'll get them To notify me and get my hands on one of these.

I have been extremely annoyed by Nvidia in this launch. On launch day I was waiting since 5AM. When they went live I had it in my cart. Only to not be allowed to check out.

Every time they come back in stock they're gone before anyone can blink. This is a disaster and has left a bad taste in my mouth for consumerism in the future. Only reason I don't go to Big Navi is because I don't trust Flight Sim enough with them.

Something seriously needs to be done about this bot stuff and scalping. They need to pass some sort of law in addition to these ecommerce and brick n mortar stores to help end this nonsense. This is getting out of hand that the sneaker heads are now moving over to the tech territory to swipe up all the goods so that us legitimate users who really need or want one can't even get.

Websites need better backend implementations where they can put in a 'slowdown' or 'cooldown' mode when it detects multiple requests in rapid succession coming from one IP address. Lots of things can be done to prevent this sort of thing and also make scalping illegal and if not, at least have buy/sell sites like ebay, offerup, craigslist, facebook marketplace enforce strict rules to sell items above MSRP. I mean c'mon. They can make this happen, it's just everyone needs to work together to make it work.

StockX is mainly a place to scalp sneakers, and now you can see they're selling graphics cards. Seriously don't know what this world is coming to. These people make me sick.

Something needs to be done. What we have today:

1. Cards are sold out and actual gamers are not able to get them.

2. The cards themselves are sitting unopened in boxes waiting for a sucker to buy them at scalper prices.

3. nvidia isn't making any more money and getting bad PR to boot.

The scalpers are the only winners.

I have no idea how to fix it, but analyzing the actual orders might shed some light on the situation.

I just gave several ideas on how they can potentially fix the problem and fight back against these scalpers.

If no one buys from the scalpers then the problem will fix itself as they can choke on their own inventory. One guy wrote a code so that if any of these cards come up on ebay, it put an extremely high bid in in which no one will try and out bid it basically making the auction void. If the owner trys to out bid the bot it just keeps raising the bid amount. Not the answer but I like what that is doing.

If people would stop incentivizing the scalper market by buying the scalpers products at the ludicrous price points then they market will eventually dry up. That’s the best medicine in my opinion.....force these jack wagons to sit on their own stock and force them to sell it at the same price point that they purchased it for.

will this happen??? Hell no hahaha people want it when they want it.

You mean to tell me that you've never bought a ticket for a sporting event or a concert on the secondary market? The problem is with the vendors, not the buyers. if the vendor knowingly creates a shortage, what is the buyer supposed to do? There are only two choices. Either don't buy the product or buy the product at inflated prices. Could you imagine if all products were sold this way? Nvidia has no excuse. They are a tech company and if they wanted to stop bots from buying up all their stock, they could do what EVGA and other vendors have done. It's not complicated. They purposely want to create a "feeding frenzy" for marketing purposes.

Calm down dude...

I have never bought a ticket to a sporting event at four times worth the face value of the ticket. the ticket secondary market is not the same as this market that scalpers and Nividia have created. Isn’t ticket scalping illegal in the states?

secondly, You assume that bots are always and perpetually going to snag up every 3080/3090 that it ever produced. You and I both know that’s not true. UNLESS....people continue to buy the crass from the scalpers for crazy high prices.

For sake of argument, why would scalpers continue to buy these products with the hopes of turning a profit if there are literally no buyers? If the market drys up, it drys up.

Maybe in a few states, but it's now not referred to as "scalping" (which probably has some racist connotation) but rather as "the secondary market". Even in states where it is still illegal, the law is rarely enforced. We can thank the Internet for that.

Nvidia is perfectly happy to bask in their self-created success. Eventually the prices will drop, but really that's not the point. No consumer likes to be manipulated by a company which is only interested in hype and marketing.

Are you limping places like stubhub into your term of secondary market? Just curious.

I don't think the comparison between ticket resales and GPU scalping is valid. WRT to tickets, there is only a fixed number available. GPUs, OTOH, generally have no fixed production numbers and it will be only a matter of time before a user gets one.
