Is it recommended that we back up the Community folder before any patches? I have typically done nothing before the other patches, but perhaps I am not doing this right? I wasn't aware that the patches delete any previous addons.

No cfg files hacking, no WiFi, no mods or addons, stable internet line.

Installing 1.9.3. update word not allowed my installation so i completely wiped it according to the known procedures.

Since two weaks i try to reinstall MSFS to no avail, i even brought my PC to my office where i have an stable fiber line with 100/100, limiting the speed to 3 MBit, changed DNS ... just a waste of time.

Refund is not available anymore, 120 bucks down the drain.

Maybe this patch will fix the "refund not available anymore" bug, Joe?

I dont think having content in the Community folder breaks the update - it is rather the opposite. The updates usually adds new functionality that the mods don't support.

People are then quick to blame the new patch for breaking their sim.

If you empty the Community folder and wait for the different modders to confirm they are compatible with the latest patch and then download the latest version of the mod you should be OK.

If you have plane mods you need to delete them

For safety, you should back up your Community folder.  From what I recall what a community manager (or was it a developer?) from Microsoft/Asobo said, the game isn't supposed to modify your community folder, if you installed MSFS in the default directory.  But if you are concerned about a potential loss, especially with the buggy nature of MSFS, it's recommended to back it up.

If you installed MSFS in some other directory that isn't the default directory, all bets are off and you definitely should backup your community folder, especially with all the bugs and installation problems with MSFS.

And also what other people mentioned about the freeware mods from 3rd parties, such as the FlyByWire A320 mod.  Updates usually break those mods so it will cause bugs for you, until you get the patched mod.

From my understanding, if you purchased stuff from the Marketplace, those aren't supposed to break with patches/updates (but of course, it's possible they may break too).

I feel with you, Joe. I fought with the MS store version for several days to the extent nearly breaking my system. My bad seems to have been I wanted the beast to install into a drive different from C. Finally, I applied for a refund (albeit within the time limit) and was granted it after I set PayPal in action.

Bought the Steam version later. No installation issue ever since, neither with the original game nor with the updates.

Kind regards, Michael

No the updates should not change or delete any add-ons in the community folder, but I always move them to another temporary folder as a group before starting an update to insure that their presence does not interfere with the update process.

Do keep in mind that any community mods that add functionality to specific default aircraft or systems (like the FlyByWire A320 mod) are likely to be broken once a patch to the core sim has been installed, but the mod developers usually update their products pretty quickly to be compatible with a new patch.

Stand-alone airport scenery add-ons should not be affected.

So I recommend that a few days after this patch, go to the official MSFS channel on Discord and ask for help there.  There are a lot of people on Discord and some are very knowledgeable about installing the game so you can get some high quality help there.  Today is patch day so you probably won't get any help.  Wait a few days and then go to the official MSFS Discord channel and ask for help.

If you have problems installing it after bringing your PC to your office, it's possible there is some registry setting, or hidden file (or hidden folder) that wasn't removed when you uninstalled MSFS.  You're supposed to do a clean uninstall of MSFS because the uninstall script will automatically clean up any registry settings and/or hidden files/folders for you.  What I saw other people doing was deleting the MSFS directory, which isn't a clean uninstall (that will just leave registry settings hanging around, and possible hidden files/folders).

Follow the instructions here for a clean uninstall and clean install for Microsoft Store version: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016107019-How-to-repair-or-remove-and-do-a-clean-install-of-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-on-Microsoft-Store-Gamepass

And clean uninstall and install for Steam version: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016125019-How-to-repair-remove-and-do-a-clean-install-of-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-on-Steam

Another possibility is something that Asobo didn't patch.  For example, special characters in your Microsoft Account name which caused installation problems before. But from what I know, most of the major installation problems were resolved but you can still file a bug on Zendesk and maybe Asobo may check out the bug you filed.

I specifically bought the MS store version on day one because I did not want to be held captive to Steam's delay in patching and distribution but now I regret that decision because the MS store version is such a xxxx show of epic proportions. The installation on the drive is all over the place so much that I have no idea where anything is. Patches from them is always me holding my breath to see what breaks and how many hoops I will have to jump through to fix it. The Ms store is a debacle. I wish I could trade mine for a steam version.
