Anyone know what time the next Oct 13th Patch/Update drops?

Featured Replies

So the countdown to the patch starts!  The other patches in the past dropped around 4 PM UTC, which is 12 PM East Coast US time.

I'm going off to backup then empty my community folder then. . .

I just renamed mine to "Community.off" and made a new "Community" one. I am using the Steam version on drive L: without any access restrictions.

Kind regards, Michael

Surely, as this is not the main 'content' update promised for the end of October, then this will be a bug fix update - and don't call me Shirley!

Can someone please explain “backing up the community folder.”

I’ve updated to the previous patches and know nothing about a community folder, nor a backup of that folder. No messages in the sim and this is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned.

What am I missing?

I like this method, a lot.  Very quick, and no need to copy or move anything.  I don't know if this would cause problems for those with pay-ware addons, but I am holding off on those a bit until the program code settles a little.

Thanks for the reminder on the Community Folder. Suspect the update will make all planes study level so we won't need Flybywire etc after the update.

I know some users have had massive problems downloading the main sim or updates, but many others have not. It has never been a problem here. Several Alpha versions, the initial public release and the three patches have all downloaded quickly and smoothly on my system with no “file looping”, disconnections, or other problems.

I can’t say that there may not be some kind of “snafu” on the Microsoft server end of things, but if there was a major problem there, every single customer would have problems, and that is not the case.

Keep in mind that nobody has a direct connection to the servers. All internet TCP/IP packets have to travel through numerous routers between source and destination over multiple different networks, and a weakness with any one of them can cause problems.

My own “best practices” for downloading MSFS updates is to first remove any and all mod files and folders from the community folder, leaving it completely empty.

I know that at least some people have done mods that involve changing files in the core sim folders specifically to allow LOD settings beyond 200, and then make those edited files read-only so that they will not revert back to default settings when the sim is restarted. That is exactly the sort of thing that can trigger a complete re-download of the entire game, instead of just the update files.

I connect my FS computer to my router using a wired ethernet cable, never WiFi. I have insured that my network card settings have any “power saving” functions disabled.

I completely deactivate my anti-virus software before beginning an update.

I have a 100MB internet connection, and do have a very high-end router - (a Netgear RAX200), which is specifically designed to support multiple high speed streams, but even so, I insure that nobody else in the household is streaming videos or doing other large downloads while an MSFS update is underway.

And, I don’t try to update the sim 5 seconds after a new version goes live, knowing that tens of thousands of people are trying to do the same thing at exactly the same time. I always wait at least a day or two after release.

Personally I am hitting refresh on my MS Store check for updates button quite often!

The community folder is where all your community add-ons are installed, if you haven't any ad-on you are fine.
