Really? Aerosoft doesn't seem to think so.

IMO PMDG does not set the standard of flight simulation. Well if they did why no aircraft in XPlane which is obvious better than P2D yeah I said it. Zibo (type) aircraft in the new sim will be dooms day in the future for PMDG. Go fly leave them behind.

Ok so here’s the worst take so far. Can anyone top it?

I will say one thing. Aerosoft will clean up when they release their CRJ end of the year or early next year. I remember reading a post from Mathijs over at Aerosoft forums where he said one of the airport scenery addon for msfs had sold way more copies in the last month than the p3d version had in a year.

There is so much pent up demand for aircraft with very few options. The pot of gold is waiting...

Ok so if PMDG was so special why is no one is showcasing it on Youtube or Twitch as of now. People are Streaming MSFS and Xplane. P2D is left in the wind.

What I am interested to see is who will be the new entrants? We are used to the same old 3PDs but with the coverage msfs is getting there should be new players entering the block. If that happens then it could be "what PMDG" by this time next year...

I have not seen anything showing functioning systems.  Just exterior modeling shots.  In fact Aerosoft said yesterday in their forum they ALSO need more from Asobo

There is a whole lot more to this hobby than what is being streamed.  Not that it doesn't have value to showcase new products and to teach.

People want addons now, not in a year or two. The addon ecosystem has changed dramatically. PMDG and FSLabs are asleep at the wheel.

Ricardo.  You can't call anybody asleep at the wheel right now other than Microsoft itself by not getting the SDK out.  If PMDG and FSLabs are asleep at the wheel then who is selling high quality airliner addons for MSFS?  Nobody.  When do you think the CRJ will even be available for purchase?  I don't disagree with you however that people want addons now for MSFS.  That's the reason there is so much frustration right now with the product.

Yeah I know what you mean but PMDG do (did) have some coverage on the the main channels. Not so much now. Its pretty much suicide the way things are changing now and their mindset. If they rely on P2D (P$D) we will see what happens.

There is nothing to work on without a real SDK.  That's why PMDG put their engineers back on P3D.  We are seeing developers and users/customers going back to P3D.  I'm basing that on these forums, publicly available steam usage, and developer comments.  It's far from over for P3D.  Will really be interesting to see if the SDK ever gets finished or if in todays new world Microsoft fully focuses on the xbox crowd.  Asobo and Microsoft are different animals.

There's no reason why anything should be over for any sim. Despite FSX's many flaws , people did the best they could and ensured its longevity while some newer flight sims failed( FSW, Flight, FLYII). It's possible that P3D will be the "serious" sim, and FS2020 the VFR general aviation sim.

There's also the  possibility that MS might ask Lockheed to prove that their "academic" license is indeed for "Instructional" purposes and not for entertainment.

What is clear is that this is an exciting time to be a flight simmer.

Aerosoft planes are like the guy set up on the street selling "Rolex" watches. Sure it "says" Rolex and people looking from afar will say it is but, it really isn't.

PMDG unquestionably produces terrific products. But, from my strictly objective perspective, many of the posts in this thread (and in similar other threads) almost appear to reflect attributes verging on cult-like worship of this particular 3PD.

(21 yrs. PP)

(p.s.: I totally get it- PMDG is unique in many regards, but..............)
