PMDG 737 NG3 delayed to 12+ months

Featured Replies

I fly mostly GA turbopros and jets, so I took a look at their BBJ preview for P3D.. Kind of sad looking and cartoonish cabin textures, compared to what we now have with MSFS, demonstrating IMHO the impending obsolescence of P3D.

If the visuals - cockpit, interior, exterior - match what MSFS makes possible, I might consider buying their BBJ.

Yes, because they they have back stock sitting on shelves of their software downloads. Most ridiculous thing I've seen today.

Hi..wasn't being negative. Maybe an age thing and trying to explain in forums. I'm a great PMDG fan and purchase most of their products. What I'm trying to say is the fact that PMDG are continuing development with their existing products is great. MSFS is also amazing (sound like Trump now) but needs mature aircraft. PMDG are wise to hold off.

Apparently the folks in the PMDG forums also share your sentiments of reduced preference towards P3D as their sim platform. But Robert replies that the there's not much they can do unless the SDK is fully functional in MSFS.

Here's his reply to a member who commented on his update post.

Member: This is all very exciting to be sure but, having seen the future with MS2020, I just cannot sink anymore $$ into P3D.

Robert: Chris- MSFS is so far behind on it's ability to support what we do- it is going to be a REALLY long time before we see you there. I love MSFS but it's ability to support products like ours is... woefully inadequate. They are chipping away at it- but it is going to be a long, long wait. - RSR

why do I need PMDG at these Dollars $$$ when I already have this amazing line up of 95% study-level Airbus, Boeing, Beechcraft and Cessna

Because the amazing lineup doesn't have a 737, 777 or 747.  And there are a number of people who will want those particular aircraft in this sim at the level which PMDG produce them.

Whether anyone likes or not, FS2020 has put everyone in a holding pattern. The sheer size of MS makes all developers want to develop for the new sim. At the same time, sales of older sims have probably waned, so it's a loss-loss for everyone. Asobo has a lot of work ahead so that activity can resume. For now, there's no going back.

This is my worry. I don't want to overstate it, but we're already seeing a pattern where scenery developers have already overwhelmingly moved development to MSFS. At the same time, "high-level" aircraft developers are hanging back and continuing development for P3D. For the past 15 years, the addon market has rested on a symbiotic aircraft-scenery relationship. How exactly is that dynamic going to play out over the next 12+ months?

On a personal note, I'm simply not going back to P3D. The magic is gone, it's not coming back -- and neither am I. I say that as someone who's spent vast sums of money on addons for P3D and FSX over decades -- in other words, the core market segment for addon developers. I don't know how many people there are in my situation, but judging from these forums it's more than a handful. If PMDG and others are banking on me and others like me buying new P3D addons in the next year -- however logical that expectation may be based on our purchase histories -- they're going to be disappointed. I just hope that a miscalculation like that (if it is a miscalculation, of course) doesn't put the "hardcore simmer" demographic in a lose-lose situation.

I'm one of them.  As much as I immensely enjoyed P3D over the years, MSFS has delivered the future - and i'm prepared to wait out the SDK development.  There is still immense enjoyment to be had - even without PMDG or A2A onboard at this stage.

The developer(s) who steps up and thinks outside the box to deliver a very high fidelity airliner will likely prosper here, and take advantage of other lagging developers even if they are rulers or previous platforms.   Clearly there is an unprecedented demand for that 'study level' airliner that is so lacking in MSFS right now.   We all knew the excitement would be high coming out of launch, but it would eventually wane, and now we have mostly core simmers from previous platforms torn between them all, anxious to fly MSFS, but needing to wait it out.   I have the sentiment as others.   Going back to P3D, to get my high quality airliner fix is a need, but you come out of it feeling unimpressed, not with the airliner obviously, but with the sim overall, mostly in visual quality, and technological advancements. The caveat to the above , is whoever does step up, will have to do so in a way that is not super rushed and pushed out the door for the sake of being 1st, but rather getting it all together, relatively bug free, and high quality.  If that comes out, no matter the airliner, even if one im not familiar with, I will be interested thats for sure.  Do it wrong though, and you will have the wrath of the sim community on them faster than flies searching for you know what. Not everything hinges on PMDG, and now that Microsoft have this new kid on the block sim, that has a very broad scope market, with many more users, the amount developers jumping in will provide plenty of opportunity. I think we have seen this already with some amazing talent from the opensource projects working on the default for enhancment.   Dont underestimate them.   Theres already been an A350 'study level' announcement with some direct resources from Airbus supporting that project.   You can bet that will be high demand.

This. You win the Avsim internet today.

PMDG; FSLabs, etc. are like the old Roman emperors who were comfortably sitting in their palaces, enjoying their grapes, wine, and women. And then were blindsided by the Germanic tribes who stomped over them.

The mod community and freeware devlopers are the first shock troops of this new wave. Wait 2 years+ for a tubeliner? Not gonna happen. Some addon developer is going to step up to the plate and deliver. Probably at a significantly lower price point.

Reading the statements from PMDG - it's almost sad, they seem lost......

To be fair, we have no way of knowing what's going on behind the scenes.  That's a far reach statement, but I guess there is the thinking that PMDG and FSLabs know they have a captive audience and a brand loyal following.    There are obvious stumbling blocks for these two developers in particular, and FSLabs also recently updated their MFS development by  saying they are  providing the information Asobo require to create a workable SDK for their needs.

What I love about the MFS platform is that  it is finally the revolutionary shake-up in the flightsim world that was needed.   My hope is that it enables the best of XP and P3D developers to bring their wares to market.  That is the best any of us could ever have hoped for.  Unless something quite spectacular happens with XP and P3D in the next year (which I highly doubt), the shift will happen.

My opinion is that both PMDG and A2A are "slightly" disappointed with FSXX (MSFS 2020), because they have a fleet ready to use for P3d and other platforms, and now they are obliged to invest their efforts in a completely "new" sim. But this is a business logic, their prices are much above the sim itself (but A2A is better than PMDG from this point of view), and we paid for high quality products following our enthusiasm for flight simulators. Waiting one or more years for a 737 in FSXX because someone have to follow how the new sim develops, asserting the lack of a complete SDK, from my point of view is an attempt to discouraging the simmers to insist using the new flight simulator. I'm very sad because the lack of my beloved PMDG DC-6 in in FSXX, but wait a moment, we don't have the DC-6 in P3D5 yet, and I paid $69.99 for it. Also I bought their PMDG 737NGX for $89.99, but I can't fly it in P3D5 once again!

So, I'm a very happy flyer with FSXX, I like to collaborate to make it better, but above all the simmers here have a completely new role, because they are making the liners better and better at zero cost. I know, FSXX if far from perfection, but we can work on it and Asobo is producing regular updates, and at this moment I don't need to buy other addons. But I'm an archeology lover, sometimes I like to fireup FSX and P3D, just to fly the old glories. If PMDG and A2A don't want to become glories of the past, will be better for them to avoid "12+ months" statements, and working harder and harder to make their fleet and FSXX better.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

If there is no SDK support for complex airliners than it is not possible.
You will simply have to wait and see what happens.

Accept it and enjoy what you have now..

Gerald is right.

PMDG, A2A, FSLabs, Aerosoft, and FlyTheMaddog are not elitists and they haven't lost touch. They love flying, like us, and they want our money. The fact that we aren't seeing aircraft from any of them doesn't mean the field is ripe for the taking. It means the field needs fertilizer.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I personaly think it comes more at the end off 2022.

I know PMDG from older times and there where long waitings for those Products all the time..🤨

cheers  😉

JS41 or nothing! #TeamJetstream4Life

Officially still "coming soon" to P3D, for about 6 years now 🙄. However long the Boeing boys think they've been waiting for PMDG to port to P3Dv5 or MFS, they have nothing on us Jetstream chaps!
