Don't recommend using the "optimal settings" thing for flightsim.  It must be trying to target 60fps+ or something.  MSFS defaulted to High for me, GFE was basically recommending Low or less.  I laughed and promptly ignored it and continued using my High/Ultra hybrid setup based on the tweaking guide at flightsimulator.com forums.

So is GeForce Experience even worth it to install? Or should I just install the drivers only?

Depends if you want to use the screenshot utility (Ansel) or Shadowplay for recording/etc.  I've used it a bit for games I'm less familiar with to see that maybe I can bump settings UP in some cases that I didn't realize.  I still do it myself though.  Mostly I find it a lazy way to update the drivers with one click vs going out to their site, download, run installer, pick options, etc.

must say I use the screenshot and "last 5 mins" recording during a lot of my flights......

What's so special about this ansel screenshot thing?

I don't use it, but it can add filters and stuff to them I think.  I avoided GFE for a long time, but decided to try it out just to see finally.  Like I said I really only use it mostly for 1 click driver updates though

The GeForce Experience optimization works fine for me. It's just a set it and forget it kind of thing, and I get around 40 fps with fine on-screen performance. If I add the RTSS frame limiter for 30 fps at half my monitor's refresh rate, it's even better, but I don't use that often.

I'm guessing that Nvidia's engineers can figure out the best settings of those dozens of sliders better than I ever could. I'm not particularly interested in tweaking (been there and done that with FSX and P3D), so I like "it just works" solutions.

Good luck. YMMV.

Did you look at what settings it gave you for flightsim?  As I mentioned above the sim by default gave me High preset on install and I actually added in some Ultra on my own.  If I run the GFE optimizer it basically wants me to set everything to low like I"m running a min spec potato for a PC.

I tweak so that aspect of Nvidia software is a hard no for me. Drivers only please.  Would rather not have them adjusting stuff and creating another element of confusion if something goes wrong.

If i want screenshots there are tiny utilities for that and for overclocking i use afterburner.

The game settings optimization is a totally optional function (and only works with certain titles anyway).  I may go back to just drivers myself as well though, but I do find GFE nice for a lazy one-click driver update option.  Actually I think it might even have an auto-update option but I prefer to wait a few days for any issues to come out first.  I don't use any of the optimization or recording/screenshot functions though.

The video and screen shot tool would be sort of useful if it could get over its habit of always capturing the wrong screen.

Don't let Nvidia choose your settings or try and optimize them. As stated above it just drags everything down to hit 60fps.

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

Only ever install drivers only option and a clean install.
