November 7, 20205 yr Short message. Today my RTX 3090 arrived. No performance gain within the P3D settings. Same Settings = same performance! I was already at 4K and also within VR BUT: For the VR users! Crank up the VR Steam rendering scaling to whatever you like! I tested up to 350% and the card didn´t even bother to slow down. That means....the output of P3D is maximized as it is. But now with my WMR Steam VR settings cranked up to 300% with more than native 4K output within my HMD, I can turn down the ssaa fps hungry setting to 2xmsaa or even none without any big noticable jaggies! That is the evidence that the 3090 card is very good with rendering 4k and up! So also the simmers which use multiple screens should have major performance increase. More to come....will now test some further settings Marcus System specs Prepar3D_v5_Academic_5.1.8.26742 Edition Windows 10 Home Version 2004 Installed on 20201025 OS Build 19042.572 Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0 Latest Nvidia Drivers i9 10900K @ 5.0 Ghz | HT OFF | 1.32V Mainboard ASUS ROG Maximus XII Formula Z490 32 GB RAM 3600 Mhz Corsair Vengeance | 4x8GB RTX 3090 24GB 32" Samsung UHD Monitor using 4k Custom Water Cooling | 2x 360MM | 1x 240MM Radiator HP Reverb v2 VR HMD | Steam VR Main Addons ASP3D | 7514 Open Beta - TEMP Uninstalled due Incopat. with P3D latest Version 5.1 FSRGW ChasePlane | Via ORBX FSReborn Prof. GSX 2 FSUIPC6 AIGAIM | Latest Version SODE | Latest Version MultiCrewExperience | Latest Version Aerosoft Airbus A330 | Latest Version Aerosoft Airbus A320/321 | Latest Version PMDG 747/748 | Latest Version QW787 | Latest Version FSLABS A320X | Latest Version FSLABS A321X | Latest Version Navigraph Charts ORBX Base ORBX LC ORBX TE NL ORBX TE NCA ORBX Regions ORBX HD Buildings ORBX HD Trees V1 & V2 REALTURB | All Continents +200 Addon Aiports | via .xml method added Regards, Marcus P.

November 7, 20205 yr Thanks so much for the user report. Do you happen to have any payware airports where dynamic lighting hammers your system? I'm curious if in that case the 3090 pulls its weight. Since I'm not a VR guy I was disappointed to read your post that I shouldn't expect a performance improvement if I get a new GPU. But I appreciate you sharing. I still have to test it more (Dyn-Lights). I will report back on this. In short, all settings which are generally GPU bound (Shadows, Dyn-Lights, Dyn-Reflections, SSAA, textures sizes incl. terrain textures, etc) you can almost "max out" as they do not get the card to his boundaries. Currently I am running the sim in 4k on a Samsung 32" monitor. I do use VR with Steam WMR VR set to currently 204% which equals almost 4k native per eye! So in total 3 screens at 4k. I did crank that one up to even 350%! No issues at all. But the visual difference was so minimal or even no noticeable that I reduced it to a level which allows me to turn the in sim AA completely off or alternative to 2xssaa and have some headroom. I am not sure how I will keep that. I have 2 options, that´s ok. Some markings, like taxi lines, do have still little jaggies....setting my AA to 2xssaa does not really eliminate them completely. I have to go higher and that will hammer my FPS and Frametimes. But I think that is "bad" P3D LM/Addon programming as you can see that my card is able to deliver a lot of pixels with no harm! But only by increasing the output outside P3D, within WMR Steam VR! That is remarkable as both will do the same. They both "increase" the output in terms of pixels. But via P3D it is hammering my FPS and Frametimes much more compared to doing it within WMR Steam VR. All my testing is done in FSLabs A321 or 320 as they are the most taxing on my end. I set up at KLAX which is the most FPS killing airport in my setup. I do use ORBX LC and think these two LC regions at West USA are also not really optimized compared to newer LC products. But by setting up my sim at the most "worse" location (FPS like spoken) will give me better performance at every other place I fly...mainly Europe! More words the next view days.....no I have to "take care" of my girlfriend as she does indeed need some attention too! 😉 That´s the difference between Virtual Reality and Reality....VR I can turn off....without any feedback....the rest is up to you! Have some nice flights.....and cross fingers LM will deliver our hard earned HF incl. lots of EA enhancements this upcoming week! Regards Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
November 8, 20205 yr That is why I desperately hope for a 3080Ti release shipping with 20GB VRAM. The 3090 is simply ridiculously expensive here in Switzerland and nowhere available. 1000$ for the 3080Ti would be a nice compromise... if they also cancel this card, I might get an AMD R9 6900XT instead... You don´t need to run an VC right? That has a positive influence on your FPS right? Sound amazing! Well....I would directly build a cockpit A320 too...if my second part of me would not "kill me" if I did....;-) But in meantime is flying in VR getting pretty good too. Framerates are getting better and better. It is getting smoother and last one is what counts. I can life with 45FPS which is the minimum FPS to run VR smooth. In most cases I can achieve this. No heading from EDDM to LFMN.....shot hop just to test. Thumbs Up for your setup! Marcus Edited November 8, 20205 yr by mpo910 Regards, Marcus P.
