Carenado prices

Featured Replies

Carenado's is simply pretty airplanes with basic or broken systems. In the past it took freeware mods to make them better.

They go perfectly with MSFS - a beautiful sim with mostly basic & broken systems that rely on freeware mods to make it better.

I've put thousands of hours into the Phenoms, the Pilatus PC 12 and the Piper Malibu Meridian in P3D. Basic and enjoyable. Please provide me with a list of high end developers who develop turboprops and biz jets that are actually released within a simmer's life time.

I'm happy for you that you received value from your Carenado purchases.

Despite the Mooney's issues in MSFS, I've received plenty of value myself from the purchase and paid full price.

But comparing Carenado price to value ratio (for me) to Realair, A2A, Flight1, or Milviz, it's really no contest. Even PMDG has been a better financial investment. Carenado has always been overpriced with lackluster customer service & support. The only time I bought any Carenado for P3D or XP11 was when they were 50% to 60% off and I still chose to fly my Realair Lancair or Turbine Duke over any Carenado at 60% off.

This thread is on pricing, and IMHO, Carenado's fleet are overpriced for any platform.

I don't get it, everybody should know by now how Carenado's business model works: release a plane, fix some of the bugs in two patches, move on to the next plane. Lather, rinse, repeat. Carenado has been doing this for well over a decade, and folks still expect a different outcome.

Yes but now is different as the bugs are critical, they'r not just cosmetics or a needle moving the wrong way, they'r CTD bugs.

Their old model of doing business will not work with MSFS 2020. It's a moving target and Carenado will not be able to keep up.

Those who bought the 3 planes paid $90. That's the price of MSFS Deluxe version. There are many long time simmers who had to go with the basic version because they could not afford the deluxe version.

They should consider the fact that we are still in a pandemic and restructure their pricing.

Hopefully there will be competition that drives aircraft add-on prices down. Orbx started with some very attractive prices and now we have lots of airports representing excellent value from several developers. And if they keep up with Carenado's pricing model instead, maybe Asobo will step in with their DLC. Or even freeware once it has a section of its own.

They're not really going to consider any changes to their pricing whilst they pretty much have an open goal to shoot at with MSFS in being almost the only developer getting stuff out of the door. Being in large part the only game in town is the chief reason why they are doing okay on sales for MSFS, but it's not a situation which is likely to last forever, so as a business, you can't really blame them for making hay whilst the sun shines.

Ironically enough, they actually would have something of an excuse with MSFS if they claim its protracted development and patching is affecting fixes and/or creating bugs, yet they do appear to be having a stab at fixing things. This is more than they usually manage with their other products.

Back on the main topic of pricing, I agree that for what they are, (i.e. frequently containing stupid bugs and errors which smack more of carelessness than developmental difficulties) a lot of Carenado products, whilst not exactly massively expensive, are somewhat overpriced in comparison to other efforts. Because of this, like many others, in the past I've tended to limit what I bought from them, usually only going for their simpler stuff and even then only when there was no other option and also sometimes waiting to see if it was in a sale, so it's certainly indicative of my aforementioned reasoning that I am one of those who has bought all three of their MSFS offerings.

On the plus side, that cost, being that all three purchases were made through the in-game MSFS marketplace, is at least showing MS that their in-store purchasing model has the potential to be a moneyspinner given that they have in addition to getting 120 quid off me for the main sim, also got a chunk of about 75 quid spent on those three Carenado products as well as some from that extremely lacklustre and disappointing KitFox offering.

That is exactly bang on.  There is demand that they are currently pretty much the only supply for.
