Did pixilated clouds get fixed?

Featured Replies

I haven't noticed any picilated clouds in the last few days. Am I just lucky or did Asobo do a fix? Inquiring minds want yo know.

I think the pixilated clouds have been there since day 1 but have been more noticeable in some updates and less in others. There is no solution for this unless you are willing to accept a drop in performance.

I was under the impression that this would only be fixed with DX12 implimentation.

No, they were not fixed. Saw them yesterday.

I fixed mine by setting sharpen to 0 in UserCfg.opt file in LocalCache folder.

You can also set raytracing to 0 if sharpen is not enough for your taste.

I also have sharpen set to 0, but it didn't fix them all.

Not sure, as today I was either flying in clear skies again when it really shouldn't have been - or no ATC.

There are 2 of them. One is for VR and one for the sim wihtout VR. Make sure you change the first one.

Short answer: no. Longer answer they are #22ish and being worked on (so they say) on the list if you refer to Asobo's timeline.

I haven't noticed any the past few days either, but then again I'm not trying to see them.

  • 2 weeks later...

I used to have SHARPEN=0 in my AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt but for testing purpose set it back to 1 after 1.11.7 and since them I notice I can't reverse it back to 0. I modify UserCFG.opt with NotePad++ in Admin mod, save it, then launch MSFS, notice it still sharp and after quitting MSFS, SHARPEN=1 is automatically set back.

Anyone encountered the same?

Check my free MSFS sceneries : https://flightsim.to/profile/vbazillio/trending and my hardware configuration.

I have not noticed them for a week or so, I also feel that the weather has improved (more realistic ) in that same period.

Yes I also had the same concern.
It remains at 0 but when the motion blur setting is disabled in MFS ...

Devs said its in the technique they use. I would imagine 'fixing' them would be at a heavy resource cost. Time of day, type of clouds etc can make them more or less obvious at times. I'll take them over.. other clouds ive seen. anyday. Im not against a setting that has 0 pixelation, but if its at a performance cost, it should be a notch above ultra.

They did talk about adding another notch.  It might require a 4080 (ie a gpu that doesnt exist yet)
