December 14, 20205 yr Well...i mean... it adds to the immersion flying a shabby old 152 or the Cub. But sitting in a 27 Million Citation or 5 Million TBM the last thing i'd like to see when looking against the sun are scratches that somebody caused using the wrong cloth. Heads would roll... So as some other effects in MSFS i feel them to be way overdone... A kingdom for a mod that removes them! December 14, 20205 yr I believe there's a gfx setting in game for windshield effects under "General'"... Lowering the setting should eliminate the scratches... Chris Camp
December 14, 20205 yr Exactly my thoughts. An over exuberation of 'See how cool my graphicz Skillz are' syndrome. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

You should still get rain droplets, although I haven't tried it myself yet. I believe it's labeled "Windshield Effects" IIRC. Edited December 14, 20205 yr by Kilo60 Chris Camp

Yes but this is not real life and as long as my shoes don't get dirty on my way to the plane, there are no bugs piling up on the leading edges/windows, exhausts don't form brown marks on the cowlings, no oil streaks are coming up on rivets underneath the cowling etc., i don't need those scratches too.... December 14, 20205 yr Geez, what's a developer to do? Gripe when there's no realistic wing flex...but throw a few realistic scratches on the windows and nooooo....we can't have that! 😂 Chris

December 14, 20205 yr I actually love those little bits of details that they added to the glass reflections. It adds an extra level of detail to the sim. It's like looking at the plain and dull boring waters in X-Plane vs the beautiful, stunning and lifelike waters in MSFS. Night and day difference. And those scratches are only visible at certain angles when the sunlight hits the glass. You don't always see them. December 14, 20205 yr I have the Windshield Effects setting to Low and I'm still seeing the scratches personally. There is a great article regarding what they do to make the aircraft look used and aged: https://magazine.substance3d.com/extreme-realism-asobo-studio-talks-microsoft-flight-simulator/ If there was a toggle for this "dust layer" it would be really nice.
December 15, 20205 yr Although admittedly overdone, the removal of the scratches in the Long EZ by the developer unfortunately took all emersion out of the otherwise nicely worn cockpit. I still fly the otherwise flawed initial version because the perfect glass bubble without the other effects was just lacking. Guitars and Cars are best after their first good scratch. They stop being art pieces and get used for their intended purposes....
