Holiday Sales. What does the Carenado 182 offer?

Featured Replies

So the Carenado 182 offers a couple of knots extra cruise speed over the default 172, which feels Carenado-like to me.  The holiday price for the 182 is great.  But what does it offer other than a bit of speed?  Is it more fully developed?  I still fly FSX SE 60%+ and enjoy the depth of systems implementation of the RealAir Turbine Duke v2.

For old times sake yesterday I pulled an aircraft out of the hangar that I had not flown since mid 2015, when I fell in love with the RA TDv2.  It was the Carenado Beech C90T King Air.  It blew me away.  It is the most deeply developed Carenado model I have, and I had forgotten.  Virtually every system in that C90T is modeled.  Even pressurization and cabin climate control.

So. How much more depth in modeling, especially systems modeling, does the MSFS Carenado 182 provide over the default 172?

My view on this one is to save the money.

Reason 1 for me is that you don't have a flight_model.cfg file that you can edit and have it tuned to fly properly. Typical for MSFS airplanes, oversensitive.

Both of them on GPS have the same issue, map orientation only on North UP.

I can't find a reason to purchase the item just for these issues.

It's not for sure like C90T.

Right now:  CTD problems in Multiplayer.

"Not recommended" 🤔

In the sim it has a very slightly better VC (in terms of clarity). In real life, and in the sim, the 182 offers a bit more speed but also a bit more penetration in rough weather because of the increased inertia since it is quite e bit heavier than a 172. With a bigger engine, it is more able to climb over bad weather than the 172 since it has a ceiling of about 5,000 feet higher (so it has an oxygen system too). It offers  a slightly better response from the engine since it is more powerful, and you've got an adjustable prop too of course. It's a little bit better at altitude as well.

The differences are a bit subtle, but they are there (in the sim) although if you aren't too bothered about subtle differences, then the 172 is good enough for most. However, if you want a more capable high-wing Cessna which is better suited to IFR, then it is worth having the 182 and certainly for a discount price.

Oh, and the doors open on the Carenado 182, so if default aeroplanes being incapable of doing this bothers you, then there's that too.

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I quite like it myself. I don’t find it over sensitive to control inputs.

I fly it a lot and it flies close to book values if not exact.

For me the only drawback is no repaints! I’d like a dirtier version for the grass fields I like flying it out of...

P.S.

I like it enough that it’s my current avatar, see above...

Also you can use working title's g1000 mod to make the avionics even better.

That seems to be an issue with models purchased via the Marketplace/Microsoft Store.  Can this be purchased from Carenado or on other sites?  And if so is this lack of ability to tune still an issue?

I got it from Carenado and the flight_model.cfg is hidden, not available for editing.

I was looking to get the PA44 but apparently  flight_model.cfg is also hidden so for me unfortunately is a no go.

I picked it up on sale. Honestly I like the 172 more.

What is performance like? Better or worse than the default 172?

Looks like I will wait it out for a developer like A2A.  If they can overcome limitations....

PC performance wise I don't see any difference (on my PC), aircraft performance see @Chock post please.
