Nvidia: 3080 ti (20GB?) indefinately postponed (again)

Featured Replies

Well, at least the 3080 ti is something that Nvidia was considering:

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/77381/nvidia-indefinitely-postpones-new-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-graphics-card/index.html

Even if there was no hassle in getting one, I could not bring myself to spend $$$ on a 3080 with only 10GB of VRAM (or $$$$ on a 3090).  Looks now my gcard upgrade plans now are indefinitely on hold; couldn't have imagined that when I bought my gtx 1070 that I'd be using for the next 5 years.  Maybe by the time the 3080 ti is available, MSFS will have its stutter/hard pauses performance issues fixed (but I won't bet on that).  BTW, no interest in the AMD gcards.

I am happy with my 1060. Video card prices are way off. It's a bubble which will come to an end--sooner or later.

That's what people also thought about 2080ti prices. And those stayed insanely high until the 30xx series cards released. I wouldn't speculate on significant price decreases. At least not this year.

It wouldn't be such a depressing morass if there was solid information on what the heck is really going on with the availability of top end gcards.  Take your pick: production issues whether covid related to or not, pallets of gcards being directly sold to crypto miners from the manufacturers (my top pick), scalpers drying up web availability with their bots, and crazy high demand from PC gamers (uh, maybe).   Your guess is as good as mine.  When I bought my gtx 1070 back in 7/16 it was no big deal to get one.  It released and about 3 weeks later I bought one at local big box store (Fry's)...no waiting in line for the store to open.  Just went there one evening, picked it off a shelf and had it installed and running about an hour later.  Dang, I miss those days!   Crypto mining has ruined it all IMO.  About a year after that purchase, due to crypt mining I could have easily sold that card used for at least $150 over what I paid.

So why are you not interested in AMD 6000 series cards?

I've just ordered one and time will tell if I've made the right choice. I too had problems justifying paying the high price for the 10GB on the 3080, I can see problems once MSFS gets DX12 with only 10 GB of Vram. As I mainly only play PubG and flight sims, I have no use for ray tracing or DLSS, So I had to choose between the 3080 or the 6800xt, as they're roughly the same in raw performance the 16GB on the 6800XT made me to choose that card for simming in 4K, the extra 6GB just future proofs the card for me.

AMD 9800X3D,  NZXT X73 RGB AIO COOLER, Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7, 64GB 6000MHZ RAM, 4TB Samsung Pro NVME, 4 TB Crucial P3+ NVME, 4TB Crucial SSD, Gigabyte Gaming OC Geforce RTX5090, Antec C8 ARGB Case, X55 JOYSTICK/THROTTLES, LG 4K C4 42" TV/Monitor 120 Hz, 2 Dell 1080 monitors. What I wrote there is only personal bias based somewhat on prior experience.  That said, enjoy that new card.  No doubt it'll be a great upgrade and hope it arrives soon.

The 3080ti is not dead why would benchmark tools update there software to included it may be delayed not dead. More to do with supply chain maybe as the industry is warning of this.

I was tired of waiting so I ordered an Asus 3090. The days of getting cards at msrp are over. Much like my patience.

I know where you are coming from. Initially I was thinking 3080, as it made more sense from a price/performance perspective. It quickly became aparent that there was far more chance of grabbing a 3090. Had the dosh, so went that direction.

Went for EVGA 3090 FTW3.

I admit that I'm flabbergasted by the prices of these cards.

True enough. But don't forget how expensive the RTX 2080 ti was... and yes, still is. Still well over $1000. $1600 for the high performance cards.

Thats for a card way less powerful than the 3090.

So yes, we had super high prices for the 20 series too, so not new. But why the 20 series hasn't dropped in price is a mystery. Unless the suppliers think they can still get away with it due to 30 series shortages.

If your wiling to dig deep 3090 are available £1.919.99 for a MSI SUPRIM 1875Mhz BOOST in stock in the UK.

I too gave the rtx 3090 a serious look, but at over $1900 including taxes US it's a solid no go.  I figure the level of dissatisfaction with my gtx 1070 isn't that dire, so for now I'm waiting it out.
