TOP immersion killers

Featured Replies

My immersion lack list would be as follows:

1) Camera shake during taxiway, runway roll. It is really must have effect...

2) Lack of haze in the distance indeed

3) In a low visibility weather, after take off if there is a "hole" between the clouds the ground is vividly visible which kills the immersion

4) wipers should wipe rain drops out from the window.

5) Icing effect on heavy aircrafts doesn't look good at all...

Without naming names there's been a couple of spiky replies to comments made in this topic. If the problem doesn't bother you or you don't see it then just move on. Users are perfectly entitled to say what bothers them without fear of being criticised.

Yes!  Waay too much slope...then the terrain sinkhole on the taxiway ‘A’ at KJAX off twy 26.  Your plane will ‘fall in’ and not recoverable.

Maybe that one at KJAX is an anomaly and I was just ‘lucky’ to find it, but the mesh needs serious attention in this sim.  Terrain spikes on every flight.

And what I also remarked is that MSFS can CTD very easily.

Today I wanted to do a flight from Amsterdam to Milan. Two times a CTD : one when still standing on the rw and the other within 5 minutes after take off.

I tried a third time (without rebooting the pc) and now I am on my way since 40 minutes ....

All CTDs point to MSFS.exe so I know nothing. MSFS is very sensitive....

You might want to add to your comment that "MSFS is very sensitive...." on your set up, your prosim beta.

With over 110 hours I have had 1 CTD. It's like the people who have counless CTD with P3Dv5 and the screams that its there set up as others dont see them.

Are CTD a immersion killer, yes the worst, but we would have topics with counless pagers long if  "MSFS is very sensitive...." its more peoples set ups can make it so. Sadly.

You might be right but the first CTD was when I had Prosim not running. However, the Prosim AC was loaded and that has to be used in Legacy mode at this moment (SDK).

With the third attempt I was able to complete the flight and I enjoyed it. And the descent / landing at Milan Malpensa in the dark was very realistic 😃

1.) Lack of inertia / too much authority at low speeds
2.) Overdone icing effects

That's basically all that I'm annoyed by.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

I didn't catch that someone had said this.  In the lead up to release of MSFS, people complained that runways in FSX and previous were all too flat, now you're complaining they aren't flat enough?

Whilst not really an immersion killer such, for me it's probably the UI designed for X-Box users and the camera system. It takes much more effort to setup and start a flight than it does in P3D or X-Plane.

To me, Top immersion killers in the sense of "feeling to really be there" are effects, or rather the lack of these, like,

  • dirt
  • touchdown smoke
  • wake
  • contrails
  • exaust smoke
  • smoke on buildings in winter
  • volcanos
  • auroral lights

I think we had all of these in FSX (!). An while we're on it: Why not add

  • shimmering heat (on runways and other hot surfaces)
  • forrest fires
  • sand storms

All of these would really help to immerse much more.

So I really hope, (particle) effects will be introduced soon. DX12 maybe?

Oh, and talking of sandstorms: I don't meen these strange orange overcast sunset/sunrise situations! That's also an immersion killer, especially in this time of year when overcast conditions are frequent and the sun is always low.
