TOP immersion killers

Featured Replies

The sim is great, but in the spirit of trying to make it even better .....

1. Water climbing up steep coasts and shores

2. Scenery spikes

3. Large waves on small bodies of water

4. Low res and/or discoloured satellite images (probably inevitable in some regions)

5. River water reflections seem a bit overdone to me, and sometimes end rather abruptly at what is deemed to be the "source" of the river.

The one that really bothers me is #1 - it's very ugly. Scenery spikes are ugly too, but thankfully quite localised. #1 is ubiquitous.

To me it’s really the lack of AI traffic and still in 2021 a total lack of atmosphere when flying even at the airports( planes never move, there are no line ups to take off, no real dynamic anything when it comes to even in the plane you are flying like no passengers, no delays, no co pilot).  The immersion factor or lack thereof is why I only play this sim every so often but really wanted it to be much better than it looks like it will be specific to immersion!

1. Overdone icing effects but no fog on windows

2. No accelerated stall, too high AOA (indicated on gauge) doesn't stall aircraft.

3. On multi-engine aircraft: all engine parameters Left,Right are the same and move in unison.

4. Engine temps rise/fall too quickly

Not particular in the correct order:

- ATC (FSX is better imo)

- AI traffic (FSX is better)

- Terrain spikes

- Default scenery for cities (just take Las Vegas as en example), sunken boats, bridges etc...

- Shorelines and rivers that run uphill.

Those of you with terrain spikes, do you have the mod fix in your community folder?

Personally no, why? Because something so obvious should've been made a Priority Fix by Asobo themselves and released in a Patch (long ago...). I'll now await the next update and see if that fixes them, if not then I may look to the community fixes.

Don't get me wrong, it's fabulous that the Community reacts and fixes things like this so quickly and for free, but quite frankly Asobo need to be doing this themselves and in a much quicker time frame. It shouldn't be up to the Community to fix the most obvious & glaring issues.

This thread has sort of turned into a "bugs that annoy me" thing rather than being about immersion.

After some thought I have come to the conclusion the big immersion killers for me are not bugs they are the intentional stuff done in the sim to make it look more like a wallpaper screenshot or hollywood movie version of the real world.

things like

  • lack of haze in the distance
  • waves to big for the wind speed
  • bright night lights everywhere even in the desert
  • built in sharpening that can be over the top at high res and makes things like fences flicker (turn off sharpen in usercfg.opt)
  • built in saturation that can be over the top and make things cartoon like  (turn off colorgrading in usercfg.opt)
  • built in filmgrain that can be over the top and messes with clouds (turn off filmgrain in usercfg.opt)
  • various fake lens effects like flare (turn off in options)

basically the game is setup to "look pretty" rather than look realistic 😄

Of course it is not just a problem in flight sims we live in a world where fake is preferred to real most of the time.   The Dove video linked below is a classic example of how far that can take things:

To be fair, seeing the core of the Earth through a crack in the runway is a much larger break of immersion than over-sized waves.

yer there on every runway, am deleted MSFS.^^, O wait not seen one in 110 hours but....#### ##

Terrain spikes...a 2 mins fix.

The only one I dont like is "The Line" but its not there on most flights but its ugly. But unlike most am more than happy to wait MSFS is only 7 months old not 10 years like P3D.

I understand you don't encounter runway tears. Please understand that I do.

Stop shutting people down because their problems don't affect you. It's so not cool, David.

Are these the same tears that launch your aircraft 40 feet into the air if you hit one after touchdown? How can you compare this to an immersion crushing wave?

Nor is it making out its a big deal, when ive not seen one once. Once saw a tree that was to big but forgot to take a screenshot and post in the "immersion killer" topic. Can you not put these things into perpective?

Stop makeing mountains out of mole hills, It's not cool and does not come over very well when its no more than a little bug.

How many have posted about spikes? one day after there was a mod fix, world wide, so a fix that took 2 mins, what a big deal! should Asobo HF it? yes but since its not really a proplem if anyone cares to spend 2 mins fixing it. Proberly Asobo thought the same. Now if there have been no fix then yes it would be a probelm and a "immersion killer" but its not if anyone cares to do anything.

The topic is ""immersion killer" not, lets make "mountains out of mole hills"

Shore lines need fixing I agree, ATC has always been bad in FSX and P3D, I used ProATC in P3D, so I simpley dont use it, but for VFR its fine. If its a "immersion killer" then you have not flown FSX or P3D becasue inclueding MSFS there all bad. 3PD inc hopfully.

TOP immersion killer: reading in forums of problems I was not aware

Maybe it's because of people like you that developers think it's ok to release half baked products?

No offence, or something like that, intended.
