Well, it doesn't. I have Active Sky, Traffic Global (a masterpiece in coding which costs me just 1.5 FPS) XP Realistic and X-Vision on my widows install to name just a few. However I will disable them all and try and get some idea when I have time tomorrow. And who cares? It was a great ride.😂

DCS 2.5.6 Proton no go 😞

Some comments somewhere said that 2.5.5 runs, but 2.5.6 doesn't.

Please no. Better just to rename it "X-Plane on Linux" or something and continue using it.

Next is a comparison of framerate between the same situation (sitting on a runway, no clouds, same setup, same view) with Windows and Linux.

Didn´t you go through this whole process to validate the claims of mSparks that Linux is so much faster running X-Plane than Windows?

I already know the difference but don't want to start another flame war. I'll PM you. (If I can work out how.😀)

I think no one is going to hold any result against you, either way. If the difference is substantial than great - people can think about installing Linux, if they want to go with the extra hassle. If the difference is neglible - and I think it is, otherwise you would have posted the result already - then mSparks will continue to claim that you "didn´t do it right", we will all roll our eyes at that and everything is just the way it was before.

So you see, nothing to loose either way.

Just grab the GPU/CPU times.

If your times are high GPU there is a couple of things you can do to improve it

If your times are high CPU then there is a lot that can be done to improve it, just have to work out what's chomping through all your CPU ticks (which XP out of the box settings are pretty rubbish for)

I'm pretty certain your PM box will get flooded with requests for results and this might just be easier posting them here 🙂

Like @Janov is saying, the purpose of this topic was to evaluate how much worth it really is in practice, and @mSparks must be commended for helping you ride along the way (and let us learn a few Linux tricks in the process too). You'd left most of use craving not having the end results after all these steps and discussion pages!

I will. Later today. I've a few more things to check to be certain. I want to be absolutely sure I've got the NVidia drivers properly installed.

Disregard
