Tree distance fix is no longer compatible.

Here's the thing though, what you are messing about with is the actual LOD setting that affects many things.

What we use to have with the tree fixes was basically trees only. It allowed trees to be drawn out irregardless of the LOD setting. Asobo had at the very beginning tied tree height to how far trees get drawn and some creative individuals realized that they could take advantage of this by making a very rarely drawn tree extremely tall. This had the effect of extending how far out trees were drawn and the benefit of a very negligible performance change as the fix affected trees and trees alone.

Adjusting the LOD setting as you describe very heavily changes performance whereas the tree fixes barely changed performance at all.

This is absolutely correct, nobody claimed otherwise. But someone said that Asobo hard locked the tree LOD, which is not true because the general LOD settings obvioulsy affect it. Still - as I said before - a dedicated working tree mod or even an official dedicated tree setting would be welcomed by many.

@crimplene, you should fly 🙂

But you don't.

Enjoy the MSFS 2020. Most of the time, you're here on the forum

I think what people mean is that Asobo did in fact lock the Tree LOD by tying it to the overall LOD whereas before it was tied to the tallest tree. Doing this prevents people from adjusting tree distance alone. Now you are at the mercy of the LOD settings (which is limited to 200 in game) which adjust a whole range of things and thus hit heavily on performance.

I just tested the Fsblog mod it works for the LOD, however the size of the trees remains the same I find their trees much too high

The game is ruin for me, i can hardly see small airports until they pop up from a blurry mess about 3-4 nm in front of me, VFR flying has come to an end, maybe it is time to try some airliners where the Lod doesn't have as huge impact, this really sucks.

Check your PC - hardware, maybe there is a problem - just kidding

🙂

Wait for the Asobo candy guys, they'll tell you how wrong you're

I still have some screenshots, made shortly after the release date

Just one of them, here

Look at those beautiful trees, buildings.   Great graphics. But didn't last long

It's a shame what Asobo did and I hope they fix this asap. I also think they locked it from their end so for the moment adjusting Terrain LOD is the only option we have.
I may have found a sweet spot. Manually changed to LOD 300 in UserCfg.opt. Tree set to ultra. Smooth, no stutters, no pop up and tree distance is same as before.

Of course every user may have different experience based on their PC settings.

I'll give this a go.

Is this with your V4 files?

Yes, V4. Also make sure you mark the UserCfg.opt read only.

I can't wait to see the next set of publicity videos from Asobo.  I wonder what their tree LOD / distance will look like!  😀

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I was thinking if there was such a thing as a class action for false advertising...

Think how much we have sunk into this hobby?

I actually don't really understand people posting obvious lies or strange fantasies into this forum. Is this trolling? Or do you on purpose play on lowest settings in 640x480 resolution?

I am not going to post screenshots for now because everybody can see that the lower tree LOD does not make a "blurry mess" out of the fantastic graphics of this program.

Back again, happy flyer - crimplene ?

Enjoy your flight, good luck
