Could just possibly be a doggy of some sort, but frankly I think that is indeed a big (ish) cat of some kind, most likely a panther. Probably a released pet which got too big for its illegal owner to handle. There were definitely some of those around in Cornwall when I lived down there whilst at college, that I do know for sure.

Whilst the bench in the foreground is fore shortened somewhat by the viewing angle, it does seem that the black animal in the photo (which is further away than the bench) is a lot bigger than a domestic cat.

And a tail length that no domestic cat has. They don't have that shaped head either. I know  because I'm the king of the cats. Cats rule!

Guess that means I can be king of the road? 😆

I have a massive domestic cat, he is huge, and that thing looks waaay bigger than him.

I have a massive one too, if you'll pardon the expression, he's a very greedy boy. The vet fat shamed him last time he went for his jabs. Trouble is he's very intelligent and gets up to all manner of tricks to get food.

And yes, this cat in the photo is definitely not of the cuddly household variety. My cat would beat him in combat though.

Is he named after Alexei Sayle? He’s hilarious; many many years ago they had one of his TV shows playing over here. I remember during the opening credits someone would say “Who is that fat b******?” 🤪

Gorgeous cat. And yes, he's about the same size as mine. Mine is black and white too, more black that white though.

I'm sorry to say mine had a bit of as flea issue. Had to spray the carpets and give him the old "spot on". Doesn't seem to have cleared them on him, so might have to ask the vet which treatment is currently working here.
