Error with MSFS update download preventing startup

Featured Replies

Anyone else getting an error with MSFS which is preventing it firing up? I click on my taskbar's pinned icon to crank up MSFS, it then goes to the MS site to download an update, but this hits an error at about 90 percent progress. I've tried restarting the PC and numerous goes at re-initiating the download, but it stuffs up every time, so there is no way to start MSFS.

Have you tried to check in the Microsoft app store on your PC if there are any updates pending or downloading before starting the sim? (In case you don't use Steam)

Are you Sim Update 4 beta tester Alan?

The problem is the update. Either starting MSFS and having it automatically go to the update site, or just going direct to it, I get this:

I have this issue also, gaming services is getting stuck shortly before finishing update. It happened to me twice.

I just restart PC, run the Store again, and it seems to be OK, MSFS runs OK (not talking about post hotfix CTDs…I’ve never had before…),

What Rado said.  Restart your PC Chock.  My guess is, there is something blocking your update in Windows store.  A computer restart may fix the problem.

Okay, found a solution to it. The problem is Microsoft's Gaming Services getting stuck in an update loop, and since it is part of the Windows system you can't easily reinstall it to sort things out, so if anyone else is having this problem (and apparently lots of people are since there is a big thread on it on the MSFS forums) the solution is as follows:

Open your Registry Editor then go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section, then to SYSTEM then to Current Control Set then to Services. In that bit you will find two things - Gaming Services and Gaming Services.Net - delete both of those two things completely and then restart your pooter. Sorted.

So in other words, it was another case of typical useless Microsoft and Asobo twonks who couldn't organise a gang bang in a cat house.

Wish Chock had posted this yesterday. I phoned MS support and she got me to reinstall Windows.😩

That's like replacing the transmission in the car because the radio won't work.
