  1. Can I participate if I play the sim on Steam?
    1. Unfortunately, this particular flighting test is only available for Microsoft Store users at this time.

Looking forward to seeing how much this improves performance for me. If it doesn't do much I may be in line for a new PC.

More NDA crapola and cutting off non-MS Store users is simply a huge political issue at MS. They will just never wake up over there, unfortunately.

NDAs are extremely common in the industry, get over it.

And I think there is a technical limitation as to why they can't do Steam testing. A previous test was supposed to be on Steam (for everyone who signed up, not just those who owned the sim), but something happened and it never went through.

But it is weird that the MS Store testing overrides your current purchase, the Halo MCC insider tests were separate app from the retail release, and you could test them without owning the game. They also ran Steam and MS Store flights at the same time.

At least Asobo is beta testing for all major releases now.  I hope they keep the beta testing up.

Unfortunate, many other companies offer easy opt in beta branches through Steam.

Including Microsoft, all the Halo MCC testing since launch has had both MS Store and Steam flights at the same time. Though they're a separate app, not Beta branch selected through the game properties window.

Maybe it's an issue with MSFS itself, since they can clearly do it with Halo.

So is this the DX12 build ? I highly doubt it since it is an update over the existing installation and not a separate install. Looks like xbox is getting the dx12 version before us. Their timeline always said dx12 is coming in 2021. They never specified any month.

That doesn't mean anything. When the DX12 update releases it will update over the existing install.

Tomorrow's Q&A will talk about DX12.

There's no evidence of that. There is a Sim update for the PC version releasing the same day as the X-Box version releases, it will most likely come then.

On the contrary I would say that it's probably the DX12 build because of that and the fact they say you cannot revert to the previous build once installed.

There's about a 99.99% chance this is the dx12 version. I really hope this provides enough performance boost to avoid buying a new PC. But either way it will be positive, even if I do need to buy a new PC.

The reason they gave in the post is because of changes to how the sim saves files.

I know, and the explanation is pretty lame 🙂

There will be a big change in performance, the new build does not bring any world or sim update, and you cannot rollback... because of the file saving method. Who saves files in MSFS? Does it refer to flight plans, settings, or the texture streaming? Also, don't forget that the XBox version will be released in less than 4 weeks, and that must be DX12.
