July 15, 20214 yr Hey guys, new PC comes tomorrow. I have my entire steam library on an E drive SSD. Am i going to have to reinstall MSFS or can i somehow move everything over to the new PC? 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
July 15, 20214 yr Install Steam client on new PC, then just copy your common subfolder (under steamapps) in the new steamapps folder. Then run each game in steam client and it will verify the files. No need to re-install.
July 15, 20214 yr But maybe Steam verifying will include redownloading everything. I'm not sure about that. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
July 15, 20214 yr Unless you are on a slow or capped internet just do it properly. Download and install the correct way. Cutting corners comes at a cost. Do you want to risk it on a shiny new PC? Copy paste does not bring registry entries across with it for example. Therein lies a world of frustration ahead for you…. I have manually copied all my Steam games over each time I've built my last 2-3 PCs, including MSFS for my recent build. I have not had a single issue with any game. Steam is very good at installing games properly, creating the necessary registry entries and appdata folders, while using the game files that are already present, so it doesn't download them again. July 15, 20214 yr Why copy and paste? Simply move this SSD physically into your new rig and do as described, install STEAM client and tell the client, where the library is. Might be even possible that the SSD again gets the drive letter E, then you will have even less things to worry about. BTW: I already moved my Steam library 4 or 5 times, never had any issue with any of my games... July 15, 20214 yr As others have said - no need to reinstall any of your Steam games. Just fit the drive with all your games into the new PC, install Steam and point it to the library of games on the drive. Alternatively if you are not comfortable opening up PCs then just transfer your entire Steam library to the drive on the new system. Steam will verify the game directories, apply any updates/fixes and you're good to go. I have transferred Steam games several times zero issues. No need to go through downloading all your games again. This will help: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

Yeah copy and paste on a new PC sounds like a recipe for disaster.

July 15, 20214 yr Author Thanks guys. The plan is to move the steam ssd drive to the new pc. Sounds like it should be pretty easy. Thanks again. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
July 16, 20214 yr Author Well guys i got it all setup. Thanks for the help. I actually went and downloaded everything just to be sure nothing got messed up. I can now run MSFS with everything set to ultra, sliders all at 200, and it is very smooth locked at 30fps flying out of JFK. This is at 1440p. Looking forward to the performance update! 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
