If MSFS is running well post SU5, your impressions re VRAM?

Featured Replies

Curious if there is a concensus among those who are doing well post update what the impact has been for you on max VRAM at the same settings you were accustomed to.

Thanks

Noel

System:  9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL  64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.

Aircraft used in MSFS 2024:  Fenix A320,  Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

Not impressed at all with SU5, a lot more stutters and no performance gain whatsoever.
VRAM is around 4GB going up to 4,3 - 4,5 GB (out of 11 GB) with everything on High and LOD sliders to 200.
RAM is around 7-8 GB out of 32GB installed. I'm far from impressed. SU4 ran 10 times better.

Yeah that definitely isn't true for most people. I would check your installation again

FSX | DCS | X-Plane 11 | MSFS 2020 | IL2:BoX

Favorite aircraft currently: MSFS Savage Cub

I did a test pre and post update in 3 areas. VRAM usgae was lower a fair bit in some places but less so in others.

I know but then i have no clue what to check or what went wrong during the update. There is no "repair" more like in DCS (which i never had to use). Re-install maybe?

I'm running back and forth all day between various settings, drivers, game mode on/off, HAGS on/off, Hypertreading on/off you name it, nothing helpes. SU4 was very good, not super super but still quite enjoyable, SU5 is a real no go at the moment.
Question is, what went wrong? (all other sims, DCS, IL-2, ED (yeah, space "sim") run nice).

What part of the world where you flying in at the time please?  Very interested to find out what the worst cases are to guide future card purcahsing.

Europe, Belgium.

It appears to me that SU5 is a roll back to X Box S standards for PC users.

you are using a 7 years old CPU. I am guessing that stutter might be related to that.

It ran the version before SU5 quite fine and runs things like DCS butter smooth so?

that's because Asobo added more multithreading in this version of MSFS and DCS is only single threaded.

Oh well, if that's the case it's shelve time and i won't bother anymore. Gives me time for something else then.

Must add that all my 7 year old 4 "real" cores are equaly loaded. Asobo did a great job there then... 🙂

The update massively reduced VRAM usage, about 4 GB in demanding regions (large airport etc.). This is only logical with the culling introduced.

I have 11 GB by the way.

EDIT: I am using texturing on "ultra", which is probably a major variable

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones, the SU5 is working great, so far I see better use of resources, RAM and vRam footprint is lower, sim experience is butter smooth, with of course the panning issue. Previous to SU5 I was not able to fly some of the stock airplanes, it was a slide show, now, its amazing how smooth every aircraft is, can't believe how good this sim is on my 5 year old pc.

I just cannot complaint about the new update, on the contrary Kudos to Asobo, I believe we are in the right direction, yes a few bugs, like any other update, is to be expected.

At least for me performance are better BUT visuals are much worse. And no I'm not talking about the pop in trees. It's almost AA is not exist even on highest level, blurry textures, blurry horizon, over exposed scenery. TBH I don't know how some getting great overall experience and some the exact opposite.
