July 30, 20214 yr Anyone know if a tree fix addon will work now after SU5? Asobo identified a "bug" in regards to the trees and su5 fixed it, but I was wondering if the bug was related to why the addon wouldnt work in the first place. July 30, 20214 yr There is definitively no "tree fix" needed anymore after SU5. Simply use the highest ingame LOD setting and you get trees very far out. If this is still not sufficient, you might even increase draw distance using manually increased LOD values in UserOpt.cfg. But one word of caution: in my case, my rig cant cope anymore with to drastically increased values in UserOpt.cfg, resulting in very prominent LOD pop ins. Will have to do some additional testing, but it seems that with my hardware, the highest setting possible without modifying the cfg is the sweetspot in regard of draw distance and LOD popping in. I keep hearing this but haven't been able to see this on my end. What a higher LOD setting does do is decrease performance. Someone posted screenshots of the difference the LOD setting makes now and honestly I didn't see a difference and neither did others. That being said we had great tree range once upon a time without playing with the LOD setting. When that didn't work after a patch someone was able to do it with a mod. Now you have to fiddle with settings like FSX and get decreased performance for results some are seeing and some are not. A hotfix is on the way maybe I'll see something better once that's out. I've tried Maximum lod in game and trees on Ultra, yet there is still a "circle" around the plane. I did not observe a circle in my test flights yesterday and had trees on hills far away compared to pre SU5 without any addon. I use Bijans mod, no idea if this still increases draw distance also in SU5? Yes I have noticed this also, 200 seems to be the sweet spot, higher settings will draw further out, but you will also see the pop-in more clearly because the rendering takes longer time. I also have Bijans mod but this issue should've been dealt with in the base game. 'Level of Detail' only goes up to 200 in the settings or am I missing something? They are referring to a tweak that can be performed to a configuration file to allow for an LOD that goes beyond the default of 200. Im afraid i dont agree. With the tree fix i would get trees out to the horizon without performance impact. With range set to 200 and everything to ultra i get a very noticable draw ring around the airplane. This is leagues worse than the tree fix mod. Perhaps flying in areas with less trees will make this less noticable but flying in densly forested areas it is very annoying. July 30, 20214 yr If the tree fix works, it will be the only thing that does. The sim is currently forked. Hopefully today's hotfix will resolve. A hotfix that completely deletes sim update 5 and takes us back to what we had before would be perfect for me. You can change the cfg file manually to extend the draw range betond 200, but that will hurt performance extremely fast. Its nowhere as effective as the tree draw fix. I guess we have to start with screenshots and precise locations, otherwise it is impossible to compare. Are you also talking about VR? It seems that you get more issues in VR than in 2D...
