Honestly, in my testing, it appears Texture Resolution = Low is LOW
and Texture Resolution = Ultra is also LOW.

Indeed, Texture Resolution affects only COCKPIT textures (and maybe external of the aircraft). This is what is was supposed to do since day1.

Texture resolution option doesn't affect satellite imagery resolution, you should look at things like runway textures or other things that use procedural textures.

The only procedural textures that I know of are the overlaid "details" and this is controlled by the Synthetic Texture setting, which doesn't control resolution but the LOD rings distance they are applied.

PS: the latest comments got me intrigued though, I'll try a few and report!

Texure resolution is one of those settings that says the sim has to restarted to take effect. Don't you guys read the description for the settings? It's the same in XP and p3d

Indeed, I confused Synthetic Texture setting with the Texture Resolution setting.

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

But why would you assume he didn't restart the game between the 2 pictures?

I see no difference. Here is a procedural texture with a runway.

I set it through the options menu in the game. My jaws just dropped when I saw the difference. I can't believe my eyes! Yes, I changed the Texture Quality setting to Low, and hit save and apply. I don't recall if I had to restart. But oh my goodness what a huge difference it made!

You probably did restart because that setting only takes effect when the sim is restarted

Are you sure you dont mean Texture Resolution?

Sorry, yes Texture Resolution set to Low. Before it was on Ultra.

Don't be rude.

I apologize. If you believe that the Earth is flat, I offended you, and it wasn't my intention.

(but I am pretty much sure that neither you nor any flightsimmer here believe that, so why do you say I'm being rude?)

Anyway, I'll take it back. Let's try this:

There are people who believe that Elvis Presley is still alive somewhere.

I sincerely hope you are not offended by this one. Just in case let me know: I have a few more 😉

In these shots, the procedural texture is more visible on the grass. To really see the difference, you'd have to be at normal human height above the ground looking at the horizon, and over a gravel type of ground or a cement on the airport. It is even easier to see in VR because everything gets magnified. When LOW, you can see the drop of texture details close by to you, and when ULTRA you can see the texture details going farther away. In find in practice in VR MED->HIGH makes a difference in practice but HIGH->ULTRA nearly none. Now it was before the "trick" to overriding Anisotropy at the Nvidia level, which itself might shuffle these conclusions differently!

I am not understanding, didn't you just say it only affects cockpit textures?

Well on my end, Texture Resolution has never changed anything on the ground, but has changed everything in the cockpit. So seeing the same for both settings doesn't tell he has, or he hasn't, restarted the game.

I went to the menu and reloaded the airport, I can restart the entire game but it will make zero difference. Give me a second.
