Hello, after reading the whole thread I'm the lucky one without CTD. But - and thats the other side because I could not start or reinstalll the game for the last 5 days since the SU5. Opened a ticket at Zendesk - no sign of life, asked MS Store - all is fine at their side, contacted MS Windows hotline - should do a complete Win10 reinstall. This lesson I've learned: if there are problems, all the Helpdesks are useless for me. I will not reinstall my complete system which is working fine except the MSFS with the SU5. After 4 attempts to download and reinstall MSFS2020 it could be installed, but now I have no start tile and the tile can not assigned from store to my startmenu - I will not ask the helpdesk, Also the install directory is not the one I've pointed to. Seems to be the next problem on horizon...

For me the SU5 was not a system update, it was a system downgrade. I'm with my 7700K and 1080Ti in the low/midrage PC's and fly slow and low VFR with medium/high settings (also to keep the GPU temp acceptable), for IFR I'm still using P3D or PSX, thats why I can not say anything to the graphic aspects at higher altitudes, but the mad and corrupted install routine is enough for me to claim about.

As result I will not buy anything for MSFS until it's a stable plattform for whatever Asobo/MS is planing. Until then I'm going to fly at 10K ft and hope every time the sim will start today without a windows reinstall.

Best regards

Just when I was getting somewhere close with the colours and detail etc. I had a couple of CTD's last night, one in the BN-2 but the other in the default C172 classic.

Both happened when looking around inside the cockpit.  The C172 was with a quick view left while in the pattern, the screen totally froze, and 10 seconds later I was at the desktop.  BN-2 was similar but looking right and back over my shoulder.

It's a shame.  I had similar experiences on the first days after SU5, but definitely better after the hotfix.
Hopefully they can get on top of these quickly, as CTD's were very, very rare for me beforehand.  I used to be able to quit when I had enough, but now the sim tells me when it is time!  😀

Someone on here once said CTD's were almost exclusively hardware problems - so 'you need to check your rig!' - (really arrogant some people aren't they?)
Anyway, I don't think hardware is all of the cause at the moment.  If it was, then how are Asobo fixing some of the CTD's like in the latest hotfix?

Just a note, I am limiting at vsync 30, with GPU running cool and at about 65%.  Due to running at sensible levels, the GPU is not stressed at all when limiting to 30 FPS, likewise with the CPU.

PS. Event viewer gave no clues except 'graphic driver had to reset and has recovered'.  I had this with my previous driver last week, and the new Nvidia driver just installed with Nvidia experience added, so that I can try to use the filters on the colours, and lighting etc. - it does a fair job actually; getting somewhere close on that at least.

Well, I just arrived here following an inflight CTD, so I can confirm CTD's are a-happening. Happy for those that are not experiencing.

Welcome to Avsim.

What aircraft do you fly, in which scenery and is your community folder otherwise empty ?

There is little doubt that this build is not entirely stable but there is little doubt either that some CTD or freezes are induced by non updated addons or mods as it had been pre-SU5, not by the sim itself.

CTD are not exclusively hardware problem but a good way to get one for me is to unplug and replug my headset 😁

BN : MS wants it all. A large 3PD sector to make money out of it through their shop and be free to change deeply the code as they wish. A slight contradiction. The market has slowly built up to a point where a SU5 is just crazy.

172 classic : Can’t try to check, I have the standard edition but I had very bizarre camera behaviors early on with SU5 and spent a lot of time to remap my cameras which didn’t do anything to better my mood.

Way to try and dismiss inconvenient data.

The poll in no way asked people’s impression of ‘an image’, but of the real-time, moving experience in the sim. Gonna have to bin your dismissal I’m afraid.

Even a high school math teacher knows what I said is true. You are giving a limited population sample a limited multiple choice option whom all have different variables (hence different video cards, were in different modes prior, different size screens and color configs). Yes, there can be validity to such a poll but it has to be cleaned up with either follow up questions, or some special techniques, by itself it has no weight. It's like asking who your favorite president was in history, and assuming if you picked Abraham Lincoln you will vote for the next republican.

Yes, this is the nature of PC gaming populations. Most polls of PC gamers understand this.

If it were a more complex poll, maybe. But for a simple one just asking is your experience better / same or worse than before, naaaaah.

Nope, it is not like that at all. I may not have a qualification to teach high school maths, but I do have a masters in linguistics and can spot an undistributed middle when I see one.

That's good you have a master's in linguistics, and impressive (I agree), but it doesn't have all that much to do with polls on a web site. We can argue about it all day, but even properly written polls can be incorrect.

Years ago I can remember visiting people with an old CRT TVs, where the picture tube was on its last legs, the picture was horrible, and they thought it looked fine. I think we have some of that going on with observations on this forum about post SU5 graphic quality.

Doesn't look a complete disaster to me
lwQQ5Zl.jpg

Yes, it's a bit washed out in the whites but it can still look good. Yes, things changed. They had their reasons, and I'm confident things will revert and merge before too long. In the meantime, I'm fairly confident in my own judgement, thank you. And check out some of the other shots people are posting in the screenshots forum. There's plenty of good visuals in this sim right now, for some folk at least, and presumably we're all using the same sim.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I think some are obviously falling victim to the OCD of over-analyzing the degradation, but it depends how big of a screen you have or how close you sit, and also probably what is your purpose of flying. As a scenery designer, someone that creates their own graphics in blender, and someone using a giant screen, there is degradation.

If I were just flying on a regular sized PC monitor, I wouldn't care nearly as much. That said, I cannot assume for others how much it does or does not affect their experience. Plus I don't know all the causes of the degradation for certain. I can probably guess to 80% or 90% accuracy, but that last 10-20% error has bitten me many times, so I'm not going to assume I have it all figured out just yet.

Personally I can live with it knowing that it will be tweaked again soon.   Certainly I have zero issues with the increase in performance and the improvement to the smoothness of the flights, and even on SDR I can live with what I have...  it certainly hasn't stopped me flying or become an end of world scenario.

It's a little bright and washed out under cloud, but I expect that to change soon when Asobo have looked at the results, although it was a pretty bright and hazy day down here in the South West today.

I'm still happy chugging around the skys 🙂

Pretty much what I see now and Frankly its awfull

For me, it's the loss of sharpness of the auto-gen more than the lighting. I may try messing with various sharpening combos in the Nvidia Settings, but it is annoying as I had all my settings perfect before, and now it's difficult to get it looking just right.

Give it time, it hasn't even been out for a week yet. Have some faith and patience.

You do realize the development team is made up of more than a hundred people right? There's different teams focusing on different stuff. The entire team wouldn't be working on that.

And that DLC isn't out until November (if the movie doesn't get delayed again), plenty of time between now and then.

Faith and patience, I have in abundance. But give MSFS time? How much more time do they need? If they can't get a stable release out after 1 year, then, really how much more time do they need? Do not have this problem with any other games.

Yes I do realise. I am well aware of that, however it is still no excuse. If they stopped making empty promises, people wouldn't be up in arms.....They create these expectations. Then they cant stand by them. I wish they would just keep quiet, create a stable base, and then, maybe then they can surprise us with DLC, and adding and goodies etc...... I suspect people would be far happier that way.

That poll when looked at with no glowing red glasses as I showed on the last page was far from a win for the new update. But yer delusion is a wonderful thing.

If you think the poll was a win for the new update that says a lot about how you gloss over to reach what you want it to.

Sorry to hear mate, Like you I had not had a CTD for months, it could be two thing.....yours and my PC is bad and changed strangly around just the day after SU5 came out or there are bugs in MSFS now...yer its your PC!

Also I LOL when people say it looks fine, then you read they are using old drivers, monitor setting changed or NVidia CP with gamma ...etc etc. But yer the sim looks just fine now, did they all do that before SU5?.....🙄

I hope like me you get your PC fixed and then sort out your display then MSFS is all good again.....😉

BTW The link to Orbx about textures was a great one, thank you. Good to see nothing is amatter there also😌
