PMDG was told after the release of SU5 that some "channels" was disabled  in which there DC-6 was using and resulting in lower release performance so these channels might have a bigger impact than we know .

Lighting "channel" could just be one of them if its for real .

Other "channels" might have be "out of order"

A SU3 screenshot, several months ago....No LoD editing, High/Ultra, 1920x1080. Sometimes is good to remember where we come from.

...and a SU2 one, that´s me enjoying the Discovery Tour... THAT was a haze I loved. Autogen buildings had distinctive features an colorization.

Wow the good old days. Doesn't look like that anymore.

@Nemo

Yes you are right. My texture quality settings is set to high. The issue @Nyxx is showing with the buildings is solely related to the Buildings setting (well at least one important part of the issue he is showing).

@Nyxx

The idea with my file was to check whether the same visuals persist between sessions. As soon as you change any setting in the UI, it will be changing the file too, and therefore probably redo the same problem. So the idea is really

1) Check wether my settings are applied consistently between 2 sessions.

2) Once validated on your end, just change the following in the file (these will give you texture, buildings, trees, bushes: ULTRA), and start the game to see if these are sticking too:

{Texture
  Quality 0

{Buildings
  Quality 3

{VegetationLarge
  Quality 3

{VegetationSmall
  Quality 3

3) Once validated on your end, if these are sticking as well or not, just let us know and we'll see!

Yes, these pictures show it very good. I have yet to find a comparable quality with SU5.That's why some say it is a degradation in visuals.

Do you remember where you took these screeshots?

The first one I don´t know. The second one is Albania, a shockingly good looking country pre SU5.

The quality value is actually reversed. I searched for that some time ago in the MSFS forum. 0 = ultra

Really? I thought 3 would be tha maximum settings which would be Ultra. Because when looking at the other settings, they are set to 3 for mine and it matches what I see in my graphic settings screen in game.

Currently mine's set at 1. Because I wasn't sure if it was just on/off thing.

{Texture
        MaxAnisotropy 1
        Quality 3

So the quality setting righ underneath MaxAnisotropy is the Graphic Preset (low-3, med-2, high-1, ultra-0) that we see in the game menu?

If you say they're reversed, then does it also apply for these?

{Buildings
        Enabled 1
        Quality 3 <-- should be 0 as well?
    }
    {VegetationLarge
        Enabled 1
        Quality 3

        Quality 3

I think that needs testing, does not seem right?

The last poll was opened yesterday, and it still had the similar approximately 70% to 30% ratio the previous poll had.

I am 100% sure that I have better graphics since Sim Update 5

Yes, as we know from the most recent poll here, more people think SU5 looks fine / good than looks bad:

I'm also sure it looks better for me. I don't doubt for a second that lots of people don't like it, but I guess we're just seeing different things, or have our monitors set differently. What I object to is people who don't like it saying it's objectively true and can be shown in screenshots, neither of which are true.

That looks awful indeed. The colors are just overly washed out compared to previous versions. I feel the same way. Flying isn't enjoyable and breathtaking as it used to be prior to SU5. I've tried almost everything to try and fix the problem but no luck. It's on Asobo's hand now and I hope they will do something about this awful haze everywhere look.

Fixing it is like trying to polish a word not allowed. The shimmering in the houses is awful.

Aside from the lower quality textures and clouds, panning is slower than it used to be. Let's hope that Asobo gets out a fix ASAP.

Or like putting lipstick on a pig? Is that allowed.

Did you try turning off the color grading effect in the UserOpt.cfg file?
