The dev team has acknowledged the issues...

@joec63 Yes, no need to say, that´s SU5. definitely, where autogen looks like yellowish cardboard boxes.

Some of you are grasping at straws . You do realize that time of day provides a great deal amount of color hues in a screenshot

Haze is a normal part of r/w flying - especially in summer. It is typically far more obvious in the air than it might be on the ground. Here in the northeastern US in summer, in-flight horizontal visibility is often 6 or 7 miles at best, even on a clear and sunny day. It can improve substantially if a cold front has recently passed through, followed by a cool, dry Canadian air mass, but as soon as temperatures and humidity levels return, so does the haze.

I already know that. My problem is I see this everywhere and it doesn't matter whether it's Winter, Spring or Autumn or Summer. This is clearly an SU5 issue that wasn't present before and it looks terrible with this overexposed, washed out look. The answer isn't because it's more realistic to see this effect because it's summer. It's not summer in other parts of the world where I fly and I still see this. I've done many tests including going through all the months under the weather menu to see if it gets rid of the haze, and it doesn't. It only changes the angle of the sun. At least they got that correct.

So what happens when they fix the visibility issue in live weather? Low visibility due to humidity and haze will give a more washed out look. People will whine about that too.

There is a big difference from haze produced colours and what MS have admitted they have broken.

Here, hazed ultrarealistic colors in SU5 and superb autogen. EVERYTHING ULTRA. Double checked. Asobo, dream high.( You can click on the pictures for a HD ultradefinition Blurryness fiesta, notice how airplane details still feel kinda good, it´s the sim itself what was horribly downgraded)

That looks awful! Exactly what I'm experiencing as well on my end. It's like everywhere I fly in the world is filled with smog.

There are a few things not right, and possibly causing FS2020 to chock when reading the settings and inducing errors when rendering.

The one I can spot immediately is OmniContributionCullingThreshold which has never been 0 since day 1.

For what it's worth, here is my entire file:

  1. Backup your file then copy/paste mine.
  2. Copy/paste the Adapter setting from your backup file.
  3. Copy/paste the InstalledPackagesPath setting (last line of the file) from your backup file.
  4. Just in case, when you change a 2D setting, try using the same in VR too (like in my file)

NB: OmniContributionCullingThreshold has different values between 2D and VR by default. I don't know whether this is bug, or whether it is intentional (culling out some computing in VR).

PS: I don't seem to have any problem with "non sticking settings" however this doesn't change the fact visuals are really different for me too with SU5. My settings below are not meant to be a "reference" everyone should use, just a sane base to start with given at least on my system, they stick between sessions (so it seems to me).

Well, it helped!

How did it help? well swoping from preset LOW to Ultra did not bring full Ultra. But it does now. But setting still dont stick.

I toggled to Low-End and applied, and that value went to 0.25.  So toggled back to Ultra, applied, and it did go back to LOD 2.0 but here's the catch and I assume you folks already know this by I didn't:  I then changed the .cfg to Read Only, went out of the flight to the Main Screen, then started a new flight and the values are retained in .cfg, and it looks like it is from this screenshot.  It is very sharp on screen versus this compressed shot:

Going to test this now as I have never set mine to read only.

These were at dusk, were the " changes" are even more apparent and painful. All my previous flights were at better lightning conditions, so I failed to notice this until now. The moment that Hollywood plastic light (called sun since SU5 ) vanishes, everything is dull and lifeless.Try to replicate this on SU4 even at Low/Normal settings. Whoever acknowledges this as "just performance" changes and LOD Optimization is, well, ...a happy simmer, let´s leave it at that. XD

Even the nights look terrible with this washed out look. There's like no contrast, since when are the skies like gray at night? They should be close to black. There's lack of any dynamic range. It's like you take a photo and bring it into photoshop and decrease the contrast. Flying at night has always looked bad, but even worse in SU5.

I agree it shouldn't be radically everywhere but rather based on where you fly. For example, in SoCal half of the summer we deal with haze - a washed  out, over exposed mess. LOL I have posted few photo as an example

And there were people bashing the dev team saying that once XBOX was released, they'd forget about us. It's just so silly. Asobo and Microsoft have been incredibly engaging compared to other dev teams. We should be so lucky that we have a great new sim that has tons and tons of promise.

I will say though, I'm glad they're going to address the LOD pops, because it's really breaking the immersion factor for people with VR and TrackIR.
