Anyone do a fresh install yet?

Featured Replies

Sitting here waiting this out a bit.  In position to perform a totally fresh install but wish to hold off, how do I best say this, until the fixes are coded into the installation itself, not added on as an installation followed by a separate hotfix.  Like putting a new tire on a car, a tire that has never been punctured.  LOL
Anyone have experience with this yet?

I did one the other day, no change still had issues. But since i have been flying the latest FBWA320NX dev version, and alongside putting the sim into development mode every flight has been fine. If i try it without the sim in Dev mode i get a CTD as soon as i press Fly!

Thank both of you however each of you has installed and then later applied hot fixes.  My inquiry was if anyone has done a fresh install where the install process is now up to date and does not then require applying  a hot fix.  Hope that is more clear now.

It makes no difference, I've still got it installed from launch day and it's just been updated/patched as each update has been released. Never had any problems, at the end of the day the version number is identical whether its an original install that's been patched or whether it's a fresh install. I see no benefit in completely uninstalling and forcing a redownload of the complete sim over just letting it update incrementally.

Tom. Thank you.  I am genuinely quite happy for you. Your experience and mine do not at all match.  I understand. It is obvious here in these forums that experiences vary widely.  My experience over the years with software and subsequent patches is what drives me to a fresh or virgin install.  I am just looking for indication that Asobo has caught up with a fresh installation that does not include the need for a hot fix.  At this time it could still be an fresh installation based on SU5 with two hot fixes.  Not at all what I want!

I did a reinstall months ago because at the time I had a CTD problem. Made zero difference, waste of time for me.

Thank you John.  I will now install tonight.  To others.  Thank you also and no more replies needed for my question.  This is what I was looking for.

Took me 2 hours to do a fresh install fyi Steam edition - make sure its in fact uninstalled no MSFS folders left behind or may be a waste of time - Steam edition does not delete all of the folders I had to do it manually after using windows customary uninstall procedure

Thanks both.  Bobsk8, I did a MSFS "reset" routine about three weeks ago so did not do anything first to uninstall.  Took a couple of hours.  Following that I was experiencing totally different issues than before the reset.  That is what lead me in my current direction.  I have in the interim updated my nVidia driver, found that I needed to switch HT on, and have made a couple of other tweaks.  Next may be to stress test my system, particularly system and video memory.  But I have no issues with my system other that with MSFS, and I do without issues fly an older sim with lots of addons and let's say vintage photoreal scenery.

Fresh virgin install is my goal. Then see what that brings.

When I was getting the CTDs back a couple of months ago I contacted the SI that I got he PC from, and remotely they did every stress test they could think of, and nothing showed up faulty. They finally swapped out the AMD card for a Nvdia card and the PSU to go with the new GPU, and haven't had a CTD since.

My issues have been freezes that have been limited at first to the avionics, including with up to date WT mods, and more recently freeze ups of MSFS itself.  My system and OS has not been affected.  Just the sim or the avionics in the sim.  Avionics experience just like what was described by BertP in a post yesterday or the day prior.  MFD freezes, usually when executing a step in either the flight plan page or approach page.  All MFD functions freeze.  Map, DME and time to, engine monitoring.  All.  PFD continues to work, but any foray into its modes then cause it too to freeze.  Standby or backup instruments continue to function.  I have always kept my avionics mods up to date to the minute.

I have also experienced some CTD issues, but I identified two addon scenery items that I suspect.  Removing one of them allowed me to complete a 4.5 hour GA flight that I could only get an hour into before.  Likely caused the CTD as I passed close enough for the system to load that addon.  It was an enroute loaded only for a looksee.  Do not see any indication my CTDs and avionics/MSFS freezes were related to each other.

This is unlikely to improve with a reinstall, since WT are still actively developing their G1000. It is not bulletproof yet..
