Active Sky 7893

Featured Replies

Anyone tried the new Active Sky Beta 7893?

Any improvements worth having?

They fixed a long-standing problem with loading saved wx files, so if you use saved weather scenarios it's definitely worth a few minutes to upgrade.

Yes i agree, add this: AS ruins dusk and dawn, sun gets blocked by its haze not p3d problem. Try a clear CAVOK p3d metar at sunset and watch the come down to to the land horizon, then try a CAVOK with AS on and watch the sun blocked at a high altitude by haze, have already post this at their forum, not one answer or solution, very disappointing.

This is the only change in this version:

[08/11/21] Fixed an issue regarding error loading multiple previously-saved weather files, related to active date/time handling

So haze, etc is not addressed.

Have you filed a trouble ticket which is the best way to get support?

This exactly. ASP3D injects a thin haze layer which ruins the look of EA sky colors severely.

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

Installed and gave it a run this afternoon. Curious problem, it set the real time weather which was TS's and rain etc very nicely done. But then did not change anything for several hours as far as the sim was concerned but the metar/atis changed repeatedly to good weather but the sim display did not! The thunderstorms and rain and low cloud remained. Hmmmm!

Is there anywhere on their website that gives you some info about what is new in the latest Active Sky versions?

Working for me for 7900. Downloaded fine and was able to start the installer.

Perhaps re-try? 😉

Changes in 7900 --

Open Beta Update - August 19, 2021

- [08/19/21] Significant visibility handling changes for better accuracy, reduced hard line depiction at lower altitudes, and better smoothing when using P3D v5.2 HF1 (or later)

- [08/19/21] Disabled the application of Low and High altitude Volfog horizon distance adjustments when in EA mode, since these options do not have the intended effect – these option descriptions and User’s Guide reference items have been modified to indicate that these options only apply to non-EA mode

- [08/19/21] Removed Maximum Upper Visibility option description in User’s Guide (option removed in previous update and forced to 200 miles for best results)

- [08/19/21] Fixed issue related to Cloud Draw Distance and EA mode with legacy (non-volumetric) clouds, where ASP3D would reduce the apparent cloud draw distance to 80 miles regardless of CDD settings

- [08/19/21] Various small documentation and user option description updates regarding EA-mode applicability

- [08/11/21] Fixed an issue related to loading of multiple previously-saved offline weather files
