August 17, 20214 yr In an Era of VR, I miss my good old 2d panels, those that still make me LOVE Aerowinx PSX, ELITE and some excellent FSX / P3D and X-Plane add-ons where I can opt for using 2d panels. I have great difficulty moving around in the cockpit and trying to read the instruments - not practical at all. Yes, I know you're going to suggest VR, but I'm not ready, in various aspects, for it :-/ Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
August 17, 20214 yr You do know that you can pop out all instruments by using the right Alt Button in combination with a mouseclick? There you have your 2D Panels.

The tools I use: 1. LOD = 200 after SU5 for increased clarity 2. Hat switch on my yoke for looking around 3. Right mouse + scroll wheel for zooming in/out 4. Alt+Ctrl+1 for saving my favorite view position and Alt+1 coded to a yoke button to go back to it Bert

I tried a 2D flight the other night. Lasted 2 mins. Couldn’t do it. VR, Even with all its shortcomings, I couldn’t go back to 2D. VR is like being in the pc monitor.
August 17, 20214 yr PS. I even contemplated getting a 70 inch G-Sync TV. But once that VR headset is on, I just couldn’t justify it. I await higher FOV and better clarity. Other than that, it’s pretty good.

I am thinking of a PC upgrade next year (when prices stabilize - maybe), will anything be more advanced by then? Whatever it is, I hope the next big thing in VR will be delivered by a device more akin to wearing a pair of glasses rather than the scuba gear we have to wear now.

I have my eyes on a Pimax 8K at the moment to test out the wide FOV. A lot of money, but so is a 70 Inch G-Sync TV. Other than that, I use a HP G2, and it’s really good. However I’d still like something with more clarity all around , but who knows when that will come?
August 18, 20214 yr The game already has hotkeys for quickly zooming in close to the panel but it works far better IMO if you create your own view keys using the numpad. This makes it very quick to use (just press one key). For example: Num 8 = custom panel view facing foward Num 5 = zoom into autopilot panel Num 2 = zoom into main panel Num 0 = look up at overhead Num 7 = look forward left (45 deg) Num 4 = look 90 deg left ..and so on. It does not take long to set up. If you need help just reply to this. Edited August 18, 20214 yr by ThrottleUp
August 18, 20214 yr Author Well, I confess I am glad I posted this ! 1) I am really getting old ( my brain is for sure :-) ) because I confess I wasn't even aware I could pop out the instruments with Right-Alt :-/ THANK YOU @Farlis ! 2) I knew there are predefined cockpit views and that just like in X-Plane I can set them for each aircraft with the views I need, but sometimes I am too lazy to do it... I'll have to educate myself and since I just use a few aircraft, t's not going to be difficult to create a set of cockpit views for each of them ! BTW: It's a Pita that "drone" mode though... another one I have to get accustomed to ... 3) VR : I am still on the old GTX 960 and waiting for the prices to get really low. Even Murmur was considering VR ! Maybe one day I can "loose my head" and go for it :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

VR is just something else all together; makes you feel like you are in the cockpit. Microsoft and Asobo have really helped give VR a great experience. Edited August 18, 20214 yr by simon747 Simon
August 18, 20214 yr Have you thought about a head tracker? TrackIR and the likes? They provide a much more realistic movement in the VC without going full VR, but there are variants which are also much cheaper than VR. Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

I once had TIR5, offered by a friend who wasn't using it any longer. It lasted 4 long years but then broke out of repair... I didn't have the will to pay 170+ euros for a new unit, so, I went EdTracker, and while EdTracker Pro is no longer available, mine has been working great, specially coupled with OpenTrack, but I don't have the 6DOF available in TrackIR 😕 Edited August 18, 20214 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
