It was generally a wrong decision by MS to sell the FS via the MS Store.

XBox is the gaming division of MS and the FS should have been sold only via XBox (App) from the beginning.

As it is right now, we, the buyers from the MS-store are sitting between two chairs. MS should make a cut, remove the FS from the store and run the sell and the updates via the XBox App only.

Like you I got my RYTB (Robt Young Turbo Bonanza) up off the runway at KAPA at about 10 AM CDT and on the way to San Jose (I knew the way by the way) made an interim fuel stop at KCDC, Cedar City, Nevada. Five hours logged and WU6 updated very quickly, after over an hour trying to find an update option on the Microsoft Store page I was constantly taken to.

The path is always shown when the update windows (with the patch notes) opens up.

I check the indicated path always, before I hit the button befor start installing ..

I must be so stunned and thrilled that I finally found an update link that those have not registered...

It worked for me. Why can't Microsoft just make an easy way of downloading the updates and leave it alone. Don't try to fix whats not broken.

And that is where the problem starts. My Store/Xbox account is different then my MSFS account. It worked since August 2020 without a problem this way. Now... no joy. They need to be the same as it seems.

Got it working:

Installed the X-Box app and got signed in automatically (No need to do this MS, i like to do this myself).

No MSFS to download.

Uninstalled everything X-Box i could find (X-Box app + X-Box Live). Tried to uninstall Store, option is greyed out, signed out, option is still greyed out.

Rebooted, still signed out in the Store, option to uninstall still greyed out.

Signed in the Store again, looked in "all owned" (under download and updates no MSFS) and there was the download, ready to start?

 

Now: since X-Box was still uninstalled at this point, how is this possible since it seems mandatory to have it installed? Also, after the Store download, X-Box popped up and asked me to sign in (i wonder how X-Box got on my system again, it wasn't installed again. After signing in, i could complete the download (2.xx GB). Then i checked if X-Box was installed, it's not !!!!. It's not in my installed programs list and in the Store it's ready to "Install". Now you....

In my opinion, installing the updates would have to be much easier.

In my case, the first thing I saw just before updating was a 539.52 GIB package to install!

Yeah - it is still very confusing.

Started XBox App - telling me update for MSFS available. Click on update sends me to the store, but the store updated theXBox App.

After that I tried to update MSFS in the store - nothing happend. After two or three times (no indication in the store) I saw the download happend in the XBox App !!!???  

After that - I started MSFS from XBox App and proceeded as usual with the update within MSFS itself. After all you have to download the WU6 within the content manager (about 5 GB).

One note - your profil for the store and the XBox App can be different. The important thing is: you have to use te same E-Mail address ...
