Confused on MS Store update process

Featured Replies

This happens every single time I have to update MSFS in MS Store.

1) I get this screen:

2) After clicking OK, I get this worthless screen:

3) Since that's utterly useless, I click around and find an MSFS icon, but then get stuck (???):

It says "Microsoft Flight Simulator is installed". Then if I relaunch MSFS it's just the same loop.

Why won't it just update???? Why does it have to be so difficult???

What do I do now????

Click the elipses button at the top right and select downloads and updates. Then click the get updates button. If you still don't get the update then try the Xbox app fix.

Thanks for your help. I clicked "Downloads and Updates" at the top right. MSFS is not listed, only "Gaming Services".

Clicked on "Get updates" button and it did something for a second, now says "You're good to go". No, I'm not. MSFS will not start the update.

Can you please let me know what the "Xbox app fix" is?

A lot of people are getting the same problem as you today.  The fix for many people, including me, was to download the X-Box app from the Microsoft Store.  Make sure you sign in to the X-Box app.  Then go back to the Microsoft Store and the download is available.

Don't ask me why the X-Box app fixes the update issue in the Microsoft Store today.  I think the Microsoft Store is just garbage for getting updates.

I am having the same exact issue as you. I am frustrated. Everytime Its some other issue.

For those who are still struggling, "Part 2" worked for me AFTER doing their “Part 1” troubleshooting. I was getting no results by doing only part 1

Thanks, I guess I have a different Microsoft Store account than X-Box account?

I don't know, I'm extremely frustrated right now and will refrain from typing numerous curse words on here. I love this game but my God, why are simple user interface tasks so difficult? I don't want to deal with X-Box, I'm on my PC and I just want the game to update when it's time to update. It's the same problem every single time and I never know what I do to start the update but it eventually works. Today it will not.

Well, I think I was signed into the Microsoft Store when I downloaded the X-Box app.  When the X-Box app was downloaded and then launched, I think I was automatically signed into the X-Box app.

I don't have an X-Box either.  And I didn't want to install the X-Box app.  But by installing the X-Box app, it seemed to fix this problem for a lot of people today.

I understand the XBox aversion.. I share it.

However installing the XBox app was what it took for my MSFS Update to become visible in the Store.

Are you installing and then launching the "Xbox App"? This is different than the Xbox companion app. After installing the Xbox app, launch it. Go back to the store then check for updates again.

Doing all of the above, but it all keeps sending me around in circles, it will not update. Any thoughts, anyone?

I'm happy the game's on Xbox if it means better things for PC users. But this intertwining the update process between PC and Xbox is absurd. It's so ridiculously convoluted. I hate wasting so much time on this everytime there's an update, and I usually have no problems with the updates themselves, only getting them to work.

Looks like it's working. I had to log off my MS Store account in the MS Store, and log in the XBox account in the MS Store. Then I had to play with the XBox app thing. What complete and utter nonsense.

Thank you everyone for your help!!! I would be completely at a loss if not for this forum.
