Hi everyone ...

Having read through the entirety of this post can you chaps having this issue tell me whether you are using a Z590 motherboard or not please?

Paul

No, I´m using a Z390... in October it will be changed to a Z590. Why do you ask?

The most problematic in reinstalling Windows is not Windows, but all the other apps that are installed on the C drive. And considering this, this is not so easy, it may require a lot of time.

Re-installing Windows is an absolute nightmare TBH. Just the ”base installation” is done in no time. But then there are updates upon updates ad nauseum. Not to mention all the other software one might be using that needs installation (which in my case would be software for eg. Medium and 35mm film and various editors). I get sweaty only thinking about it.

If CTDs return for me I’d shelf the sim until my next build.

Ahhh  ok ... well I don't think this will apply to you

With Z590 motherboards I selected a memory XMP profile (to show the correct memory) in the Bios  ..... I found that after doing this I needed to set, within the Dram settings, it to 'Gear2' and then all my crashes went away  .....

It is something to do with the CPU talking properly to the memory

My Dram setting was set to 'Auto' but after changing it to Gear 2 my problems went away.

Hi,

Windows re-installed.

MSFS re-installed.

Now I'm installing the WU6 scenic update.

When it is finished I let you know if it works.

Regards.

Hi, everybody.

Windows re-installed and MSFS complete installed also (with the updates, of course).

No CTDs at the moment.

I've have done just three or four flights. Two of them over populated cities: Berlin and Madrid. I couldn't fly on those areas before.

So, I'll kept my fingers crossed, but I think the issues might be solved.

Now I'm having a long day ahead configuring Windows and all the software.

Thank you all for your help and support.

Regards.

@Swe_Richard Follow the link in my other post - you get an ISO  with the last version of Windows. You will only need to update defender.

In general - whenever possible keep the system drive (normally C:) for Windows only, 250 GB are sufficient. Better invest in another drive for programs. I have 3 drives (1 TB for System / 2 TB MSFS/Games / 1 TB for programs and my data).

Make Backups  - on an external drive !!!!  As mentioned, I use AOMEI. I have the Pro version but the basic version will do it too and is for free. If you backup, I prefer incremental, regulary (for MSFS after SU or WU) you have always the possibility to go back to a previous stable version.

I know it is a pain to install all programs again but you have to do it only once if you use backup.

Best regards

Detlef

Glad to see John is able to fly again at least. We all know how it feels to be unable to use the sim and this past month has been very trying for so many of us.

Though I'd add my experience with my old Asus based 2014 PC (i5 4690k 32g RAM) - I was having consistent CTDs near the Austrian/Swiss border out of LOWI; MOGTI RWY26 departure towards LSGS. It always seemed to crash about 15 minutes into the flight the last 3 times I tried it.

After updating Visual C++ redist to 2015-2022 - the latest version (14.30.30401) and running my GTX1080ti in debug mode - no more CTDs. I am not naive enough to think I'm totally out of the woods, but I'm pleased to say that for now I had a fantastic flight - the first one ever in WU6, and at 50 70fps. LSGS is also the add on version and no issues at all. Min fps was 36-38 on finals into RW25.

Hope this helps someone - worth a try anyway.

Visual C++ redist to 2015-2022 - 14.30.30401 ist not yet officially distributed by Microsoft, is this correct?

Is the sim working for you now since WU6, if so that's good news after all the issues you had with it before..

I have no idea. It may be beta...

Beta or not, I grabbed it and installed it. I will try anything at this point. I did notice something in Eventvwr yesterday. I am getting 3 different crashing modules with my CTD's, a .cll error, the NTDLL error, and something concerning the AF-Bridge for my Honeycomb Bravo. The funny thing is that those events are always along with another error of something relating to Asus Armory. I uninstalled anything from Asus yesterday and didn't get a CTD on the one flight I got to try, but they have always been random so who knows. This morning I have also updated the bios on my Asus TUF X570 Gaming motherboard. Like I said I will try anything at this point. I even created a Win10 install media as a last resort, but I won't try that until after I get back from a little holiday to South Dakota in a couple of weeks. I hate reinstalling Windows. It's not Windows itself but getting all the other programs running like I want.
