Low performance while my hardware isnt maxed out. Why?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Im here cruising over the caribbean with the DC-6 with nearly no clouds, my hardware is at like 30% overall and yet im getting 17fps. How can this be? I dont even know how to troubleshoot this

Your gpu should be working at 100%. It's not that's why the low performance. Might be an addon causing a memory leak. I've had that problem with the dc6 sometimes.

Might want to ask on the PMDG DC6 forum.

Your CPU is really old and core bottleneck.

Sure, i know... old and loyal 🤣 but in this case there's no bottleneck since the cpu is just working at less than 30%!. I even checked with the task manager and the hardware is just doing "nothing"

You are looking at overall performance not individual core. Right click on that view and chose logical view, you will see 1 core is pinned at 100% or close too.

Try increasing your settings to see if you can stress the CPU/GPU. Also, double check the temps - if cpu gets hot it could throttle down. Not really enough info. Also, look at the individual cores.

I would turn developer mode on in the sim and enable the tool that allows you to see what the bottle neck is.

Is this from the beginning of your flight or is your performance decreasing over time?

The only one that its getting some interesting usage is core 7. The others are really low. Core 7 has a good usage but only like 65/70%

But as you can see, the cpu is currently running at 4.38 so there's no throttling. Just to be sure i checked and it seems ok. Im running water cooling on both the cpu and gpu

Turn on the in sim Dev Mode FPS tool.

If your "Limited by Main Thread" then that is your bottle neck.

Your CPU at a whole is not at 100% but the Main thread of the sim is using up 100% of one core.

The only time I see 99% GPU utilization is if the sim FPS tools shows "Limited by GPU" and no the main thread.

I've busted out Performance Monitor a few times and saw that 1 or 2 threads in the sim are running at or close to 100% CPU utilization.

By the title it sounds like what im getting since at the beginning everthing is smooth. Thanks for pointing this to me. I will check that out. Now im at like 14fps

Can i turn developer mode on without ending the flight? I have been cruising for like 5 hours now and still have 4 to go

Juan, the switch to turn on developer mode access is from the main menu, then you can choose to display the tool while flying, so unless it is already enabled, I am afraid you won’t be able to see what is happening in this flight.

And here you have it... "Limited by mainthread" but how is this possible if all the cores still have margin to grow? Puzzling. No core is even at 80%

The problem is not your CPU or GPU, I have the same CPU and a GTX 1660 Super and I get 55 FPS on the Caribbean in 1080p. Unless you are running 4k your problem lies elsewhere.

Edit: I see you running 2k, try 1080p and see how many FPS you get.
